The media is ridiculous! Anything over size 6 is considered plus sized!!!! Ladies we need to come together and stop this insanity.
I have been the little girl addicted to diet pills, obsesively exersizing and starving myself so that I could "be Beautiful". I started dieting at age 5. Don't let that happen to any other little girls! I almost died to be perfect and I watched others who really did die. Neither of us ever achieved that perfection!

Ya thats messed up. I've had to watch my weight since I was little too because I was considered fat. Even in high school and my freshman year in college I was considered fat because I was a size 9!! For godsake I was a varsity athlete, hit the gym every day and had a wash board tummy, I just happened to be curvy! When did have hips, a butt, and boobs become a bad thing and looking like a stick become good?0

Some of us guys prefer the former. My wife couldn't get into a size 9 when she was in college. My 4 year old will be close to 6ft tall when she's done growing.
My wife and I are pretty confident people, we're going to do out best to instill that in her. I think she's going to need it as the media and sociiety become more vicious against those who don't conform to what the ubiqutios "they" think is normal.0 -

You can thank Twiggy for the flat chested, no curve model look of today. Look at the fashion plates of the 50's. They were not little girls -- not with those chests. I like my curves -- and so does my BH.0 -

I'm in the same boat... I CAN'T be skinny... My body won't allow it LOL
I was in AWESOME shape but still considered "big" by today's standards.... But, I loved my body... and I was happy with it... NOW, is a different story  but, I'm getting there :happy:0 -
Yeah I was a size 8 in high school and thought was SO fat because everyone else was a 0 or 4. Now I just want to fit back into those high school jeans more than anything or at least get close .0
-
agreed. and what the fashion people forget to mention is these girls are actually considered to be to skinny for the most part by health standards and doctors. its ridiculous that girls who are within their healthy weight range are considered plus size. I will never be a tiny girl but I loved my body at a size 9 and i loved my curves0

I'm a size 12 now too which is average and I love myself now to...still want to loose a little more belly though0 -

I agree when I was a size 8 I felt on top of the world. I can't wait to get back into that size. I don't care what anyone thinks. oh and I definately love my big butt and thick thighs. Just want to tone up and I'll be super happy.0 -

I'm right there with you. I love my hips, butt and all my other curves. You couldn't pay me to look like those models ewwww0 -
Plus size models are size 12, not size 8. It's still whack, because size 12 is average in real life.
But part of the problem is that companies have tried using bigger models and the clothes don't sell as well. So we say we want to see the clothes on "regular" people, but, when we do, we don't think they look as good as when they are on smaller people. So it's not just "them" who contribute to society's off-kilter views. It's also "us."
When I was a kid, I was tiny. My sister two years younger than me was the same size as me. Then, I started going through puberty and I chunked up. Well, society was less accepting of fat back then and my family WENT NUTS. They nagged and nagged me about my "weight problem" until I went on a diet at age 13. At the time I weighed a whole, wait for it ... 110 pounds and my BMI was around 20. Yeah, I was SO FAT. Not.
I am convinced that this dieting is why I never had a growth spurt and am the shortest person in my family and it also led to a lifetime of yo-yo dieting that got me up to my highest weight of 225 and being morbidly obese.
OTOH, now I weigh 110-115 and am a size 0-2 and I am perfectly curvy and don't need to "eat a cheeseburger'. It's possible to love your body and accept your size without dinging on people smaller than you are. Not everyone in the smaller sizes is anorexic or shaped like a boy. Some of us are just short and/or have small frames.0 -

  Seriously, Twiggy was a model in the 60's from England. As far as I know she is still around. Whether she is eating cheeseburgers is anyone's guess.0 -

She is still around -- and has been, may still be, a judge on America's Top Model.0 -
The North American (...and most of the world) culture makes it near impossible to be healthy, happy, and to grow old gracefully. It's sad.0

But the models for plus sized clothing wear size 12, not 14 or 16. Yeah, it doesn't make sense.
Btw, one of my relatives is a plus-size model and has trouble getting work when she drops to size 10.0 -
I read somewhere that a 14 is now the new average size in America.....the problem with that is the higher end fashion is made smaller.....go into Abercrombie.....size XL tshirt is like SM/SXM at wal mart. places like pac sun, amer eagle and aero have very few jeans over a 12. My daughter has never been able to wear those brands as a teen. My son is super scrawny...16 yrs...100 pounds...jr in high school and he cant fit into them because they are too big.
ITS CRAZY........and to make matters worse is that the naked woman should look a certain way...which leads to plastic surgery.....I have done that so that my goods look normal.....lol
society has ruined us all......
I am 5ft tall with a 24 in inseam......how many jeans can I find that fit my inseam??? NONE.....even petite can be too long.......
why are plus size clothes so ugly half the time??? Sometimes you can find some cute stuff but in general....ummm no......
uggggghh stop the insanity0 -
Screw the skeletal, tall models! I want clothes that fit short, cuvry women anyway!!!
My declaration:
I'm short, I'm curvy. My body is beautiful, my curves are art work, my chest is fabulous, my thights are juicy.
A model's job depends on her body and her look. I'm glad I don't have that kind of pressure. I take care of my body for me - no one else.0 -
I admit this whole thing really irritated me and made me uncomfortable and angry. But, you have to get uncomfortable before you can get comfortable. I've been on both ends. It is just as insulting to be called too skinny as it is to be called too fat. Today, people don't buy that I once weighed 98 pounds and I am Anorexic even at as high as 200 pounds. Eating disorders are not a "look" they are a disease, most people don't understand that. It was not a conscious choice I made to just stop eating. There is so much more to it, but I can't blame someone who is not educated about it to understand that.
Anyways, this whole thing has really made me think because I have a 9 year old little girl who is my entire world. I would do anything to make sure she never feels that pain that I felt at her age. It physically hurts my heart to know that I could have passed this gene to her and that it could be activated at anytime in her life if I do not take action.
I have known some women in the industry, and its frightening the things that are normal behind the scenes. The pressure that they are under is horrendus. I applaud women like Tyra Banks who stand up and don't take it and push to change things. Its hard to blame the girl in the picture or the video. Often these are young girls who have been "pimped out" by parents and the media. They grow up being fed the same crap we are, but the difference is, they may never witness reality for themselves. They actually live the fantasy that we are taught to strive for. If you have never seen reality, how can you differentiate between right and wrong? If your life has always been glamarous and rich and it has been fed to you that anything less is unacceptable, how can you go against the only thing you know? They grow up and more likely than not, they will realize that life is different, just like those of us on the opposite end of the spectrum. But by then, the damage has already been done...inside and out....personally and sociologically...psychologically and physically.
We, as a society, have to stop supporting these unhealthy visions of what beauty is. Everytime we buy thier clothes, read thier mags, or try thier diets we support them. There are disigners who will not make clothes above a size 8 because it just doesn't look the same on bigger girls. Its true too, I don't look as cute as my size 2 friend in the same outfit. But where they get us is, when we start wishing we could wear it. When we start dieting so we can "look" good in thier jeans. The field of marketing has an enitire division geared towards studying psychology and finding what it is that makes us buy. They know what pushes our buttons and they know how to get inside our heads. It is very real, you can google it, you can take college courses on the subject. Here is a video we watched in a class I took on Modern Social problems. I will warn you that it is disturbing. It is also almost an hour long, if you don't have the time, at least watch the chapter called "The Midriff" it's only 5 minutes.

I'm not saying that people are out to get us, lol. But seriously, they are in the biz to make money, to earn a living the best way they know how. Whether they are in the right or the wrong is not for us to judge. They cater to what brings in the bucks. Unfortunately, we all, in some way, have submitted to thier income thus increasing the demand for their products...be it clothing, shakes, pills, machines, contraptions, girddles, books, magazines, movies, TV shows, and the list goes on and on and on.....
The first step in changing this is not banning, blaming or maiming others. It starts INSIDE of you. If you learn to love yourself unconditionally FIRST, the rest will follow. If YOU accept yourself others will too. If we take proper care of the amazing machine that we call our bodies we won't need to "diet". If we set our own standards of beauty, coming from within, we will silently decrease the demand for unhealthy images and lifestyles. We will be examples for little girls all over the world who deserve to love them selves from the beginning of their lives all the way to the end, not learn to love themselves later in life after years of heartache and self-loathing and soul-searching. We may have had to fight for acceptance, but we can stop the cycle now and offer a safe world for our little girls who are sooooo important to our future! They are the ones who will birth and nurture the future of this planet!
Please think about that.0 -

Look at Forever 21. They have a new plus size department with super cute clothes. Of course they considered size 8 and up plus size. But all the clothes are made for curves like butts, chests, and hips and they are so figure flattering!!0 -
Most plus size stores/departments start with size 14. It didn't used to be this way. They used to start at size 16, at least back in the 80s when I first started shopping in them.

Ya and when you look on the clearance rack of these plus sized stores, all the sizes there are the 14's and 16's cause no one that size would even think of shopping in a plus size store!!!!0 -

I think society considers anything above a 4 to be fat or plus sized now. our views are very skewed, especially in the US0
