How do you break a plateau?

I lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks and then 0 the following 2 weeks. I'm hitting my calorie goal every day, but the scale just won't budge anymore. I still have another 10 pounds to lose. Any suggestions?

  • Well, I woke up this morning, weighed in and the scale moved 1.2 lbs, FINALLY! Hopefully the plateau is behind me. =)

Change what you're doing. Cycle calories... change up your workouts, etc. Usually helps to break plateaus. Also try changing the amount of calories you eat. Eat at maintanence for a week or two and than drop down again.

Two weeks is too short of a time period to make any reasonable conclusions about whether or not you're "stuck".

    Don't change anything.

  • Mine broke a few weeks ago when I was sent away to work and I spent a week in a hotel with fried breakfasts. I was amazed to see the weight loss start again once I got home. I work away 1 week in 4 now and it keeps giving my metabolism a good kick!

I don't count it as a plateau unless it last for 4 weeks, then I change something, either my exercise routine, my calorie intake maybe I just add a cheat day.
