Recently read the Hunger Games Series- very good books (better than the movie, imo)
Loved the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series- hard to get into the first one - took me a while but once I did I couldn't put it down
Read the 50 shades of Gray series on my Nook- so glad that it was on my nook so no one knew what I was reading (blush)

Love some fluff books- Debra McComber, JD Robb- in Death Series, Janet Evanovich- Stephanie Plum Bail Bondsman Series-- complete fluff but fun reads.

I love his Women's Murder Club series. It helps to read from 1 to 11 in order (there's a storyline that threads through them all and it can get a tiny bit confusing if you jump around to different books).

I've just finished reading Swimsuit. It was ok, not one of his better ones though. He's my favourite author. I have so many of his books, I've lost count. I have yet to start Don't Blink and Toys.

I'm currently reading a Maggie Alderson book called Handbags and Gladrags. I actually enjoyed reading her book Pants on Fire. Easy read.

Edited to add: If you like reading those effed up books you said, try a book called Room. I can't for the life of me remember who wrote it, but it's about this lady and her son who have been brought up in an isolation room as they were abducted years ago. Freaky book!

Room is by Emma Donoghue.... Good read!!!!

A Dog's Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron (a must-read if you've every had a dog you loved, but don't read this one in public, parts of it will make you sob out loud)

The Stolen Child by Keith Donohue

All the Pretty Horses, The Crossing, Cities of the Plain by Cormac MacCarthy (this is an amazingly written trilogy that I still think about sometimes, especially The Crossing)

Life by Keith Richards (great read, even if you aren't a die-hard Rolling Stones fan)

Room: A Novel by Emma Donoghue (thought-provoking and heart-breaking if you're a mother)

Definitely the 50 shades trilogy. It'll only take you 4 days to read all 3 (if you're like me)! Quick easy and umm.... steamy read:blushing:

    ^^^^ this!
I have not personally read them but, will soon! My friend talks non stop about the series....

Currently listening to The Da Vinci Code on audiobook for my two hour commute, never got around to reading it. Looking for more ideas!

Recently read The Hunger Games and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series, liked both. The Help is also very good, hard to read at some points, haven't seen the movie.

The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley is my all time favorite.

Hunger Games Trilogy ended up being fabulous.

A book I always find myself going back to is a classic but The Great Gatsby. I feel like after we get out of high school or college we drop all classics and forget about them, which is a crying shame.

My favorite author currently is Sharon Shinn. She writes mostly fantasy/sci-fi and is amazing at creating unique, intriguing worlds and developing characters, the second of which I have found a lot of books in the sci-fi genre rather lacking in. Her Samaria series is my favorite of her books! They do contain romance, but it is very subtle and mature and does not overshadow the plots.

She even wrote a sci-fi version of Jane Eyre, which I actually liked.

If anyone likes Christian fiction, I highly recommend the Cheney Duvall series. I have adored that series since my teens! A very interesting set of books following the career of a female doctor long before such a thing was acceptable in the 1800's. I think I was a very excellent portrayal of issues of the time.

Hmmm, not sure where your literary tastes lie, but I adore:

    Harlan Ellison
    Chuck Pahlaniuk
    Charles Bukowski
    Joe R Lansdale

Anything. Anything they write, is riveting. You can't go wrong. They're all pretty strong and a little offensive though, for those who don't like harsh language and weird settings.

Vince Flynn has a series out that is absolutely amazing. I've gotten several students onto his books, the latest being Kill Shot. I even got my mother addicted.

If you are interested in starting the series when it starts getting really good, start with Third Option. It introduces Mitch Rapp, the main character. If you are like me, you won't be able to put it down and will rush to get the next book.

    You won't be sorry!

If you enjoyed Janet Evonovich's Stephanie Plum series but are sad that there are no current books out - I cannot recommend enough trying out Victoria Laurie!!! She has two series with 8-10 books each one about a psychic dectecive and another about a ghost hunter...very light on the romance stuff and super intense with the detective work/suspense.

I thought the psychic detective series was great as far as opening my mind up to really considering the super natural and that "feeling" you get sometimes might be deceased loved ones pushing you in the right directions, however the star of the series was quite dense. The ghost hunter series had a much smarter star and every book was harder and harder to put down!!!

I'm not a big fan of books not based on reality, a world based in the past or future if so and so happend..or any types of 'what ifs' but I really enjoyed these - the only dif from these and any other fun mystery was the hint of supernatural and your willingness to believe it possible.

I just finished it - I really liked it. But it was messed up. My dad was saying that he could never read a book like that, but to me it was interesting!

They've just finished filming the great gatsby movie here in Sydney - just down the street from my old house actually. I'm dying for it to come out so I can watch and reminisce!! Loved the book!!

The Diana Gabaldon books are great. I love all of the Alex Cross books by James Patterson. All Dean Koontz and Stephen King. I also really liked Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts. Two Lives by Vikram Seth is fabulous. Right now I am re-reading my old Anne Rice books starting with The Mayfair Witches books - The Witching Hour, Lasher, and Taltos. Then I will move on to the Vampire Series (Lestat). I love love love all of the Charlaine Harris vampire books. I loved all 3 50 Shades - read them in 4 days and couldn't put them down. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini was really good. The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri is a frequent re-read for me. Born Under A Million Shadows by Andrea Busfield is one of my favorites. I really liked Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson.

That doesn't cover even half of what is in my bookshelf and on my Kindle. I would say that maybe I have too many books but I don't think you can ever have too many books. Happy reading!
  • I love the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich.

The Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton is pretty good. Until book 6 anyway. I still enjoyed them, but most people were turned off by all the smut.

The Southern Vampire series by Charlaine Harris is awesome.

The Hunger Games trilogy was very good, even though it's not the usual style I read.

I don't know about you, but I love vampire books. The House of Night series is pretty decent as far as those go.

I'm also a sucker for Michael Connelly's books. He writes a lawyer series and a detective series. (and probably others I haven't discovered)

saw that The Great Gatsby was mentioned a couple times...one of my favorites. if we are talking about the stuff we read in high school, i loved and want to re-read and suggest:
The Sun Also Rises by Hemingway
    The Mysterious Stranger by Twain
    and
Long Day's Journey into Night by Eugene O'Neill.
