Odd/funny things you see at the gym
I work out in a no frills, non-giant corp, family owned gym. My dept pays for the membership so I go there. However, I've seen a guy working out in jeans, a guy with a trucker hat and toothpick in mouth in cargo shorts ang other odd types of dress. It's not very often but c'mon, you don't work out in jeans, right? Mind you, I live in TX but please tell me I'm not alone.

I walk past one of those 24/7 gyms everyday (still too gym shy to join lol) I have also seen people working out in jeans (lifting weights) and have seen a lot of people attempting to lift too heavy with terrible and dangerous looking form. Both kinda made me have a WTF laugh to myself. Your gym sounds much more fun!0

I like my gym and it has everything I need without the neon lights and the all too perky front desk folks. It's very laid back and would most likely go there even if my work didn't pay for it. Mostly serious minded people there with a few talkers and the people I see there keep coming back which tells me they are committed. It's not bad for what it is. Just a few folks there that cause an eyebrow to raise and head to tilt with a "really?" look on my face.0

The other day I saw a guy in the "zumba" room running in place looking at himself in the mirror. I guess he wasnt a fan of treadmills.0

There are two people who will come into my gym in jeans just to do bench presses and then they leave.
Another guy paces up and down the aisle in the middle of sets. Kind of creeps me out because normally it is just the two of us at 6 in the morning and he looks distressed or crazy. He also slams weight on stuff like assisted pullups by jumping off instead of just letting it up like normal.. When he's not looking like a crazy person, he's talking insanely loud on his phone by holding it in front of his face to talk into it. What the heck? XP I keep switching up my times to avoid people and just come across more odd people with each time slot.0 -
The guy who has a Death Grip on the top on the treadmill while running from zombies....I'm easily amused0

My gym has a guy who wears all bright yellow (head band shoes, shirt and shorts), I'm torn between thinking he looks like big bird, or a banana.
I never will get the people in flip flops on the weight machines....:noway:0 -
Guy at my gym (mid to upper 40's, about 6'4", flabby arms, flabby belly, spindly chicken legs) gets on the treadmill, cranks the speed up maybe all the way up (way to fast whatever he sets it on), grabs the side rails, locks his elbows to support his full weight and lets those spindly legs flailing away.0

When I do cardio at a certain time there's always this woman who is on the elliptical making victory sounds ever so often.
She actually kind of reminds me of the Cole Train from Gears of War.
"WOO!"
"GET IT!"
"Whoo-ya!"
And she says whatever she says loud enough that no headphones in the world are going to help you from being startled.0 -
Regarding the jeans-wearers at the gym: I'm always amazed when I see it. That and when people go running in jeans.
Enjoy JoggingJeans.com
It is my blog dedicated to this phenomenon!
Loved this thread!

Some people do it for modesty, however, I do think it would be a tad uncomfortable to workout in jeans.. or anything that isn't meant as workout clothing. We don't have many odd things at our gym, as most of the members are from the police department, but everyonce in a while, i'll see someone wearing odd shoes (boots) or something else to run0

It wasn't so much what he was wearing, but this guy one time at the gym I was in a few years ago...OH MY GOD!
He was running on the treadmill...had to be in his late 40's, big fella, huge Afro and shorts that were ENTIRELY TOO SHORT for him. But what was distracting/funny was him talking to himself. He'd run and looking in the mirror scream out loud "YEAH, BABY...GIVE IT TO ME...YEAH...HARDER B***CH...UH...UH....HARDER...YEAH....UH...THAT'S RIGHT, TAKE IT! TAKE IT"...and it would just go on...and on...and on...I mean it was like listening to audio porn
For his ENTIRE run, too...oh my God I usually had to change to a different room because you could hear him everywhere in the cardio area. It was too much...and he was so INTENSE about it, too. :laugh:0 -
I teach at the YMCA, but I also teach at a *boutique* gym. Some of the members are a little less serious about working out, and and a little more concerned with looking cute while they're there. Someone actually stopped in the middle of my class the other day and walked over to the mirror to apply lipstick. Not chapstick. Lipstick. Then she came back and continued to work out.
I was a little flummoxed.0 -
The guy who looks in the mirror and lifts up his shirt.. Flexing and blowing kisses at himself.. Luv it makes me laugh every time0

Hahaha thats funny0 -
Plenty of jeans wearers at my gym, mostly much older men who potter around the walking/running track or pootle along on one of the stationary bikes.
I'm always impressed, though, with one particular man who sets his treadmill really fast, stands with his legs astride the belt, then leaps--literally two feet in the air---before coming down on the treadmill at a sprint. I've seen him do this a couple of times now, it's both scary and impressive.0 -

I love the show off hehe0 -
At the gym I went to last year there were these girls who'd come to the gym with their makeup and hair done, usually wearing flip flops and jean shorts. They'd walk on the treadmill and talk to each other. This one time they kept switching treadmills every minute or two...? O_o there were three of them, and one would be like, "I don't like this treadmill", and so she'd switch with one of the other girls. I was jogging on my treadmill and they kept giving me weird looks, lol :laugh:0

I've seen the jean wear-ers.. and the this chick one time wearing platform flip flops, sweat pants and a cut off shirt.
I think the best though was at my gym, there was this guy who would workout in his boxer shorts.. and they would be pulled up over his tee-shirt so "things" were almost hanging out. All the trainers in my gym wanted to buy a pair of shorts for him.. but I haven't seen him in a while now.
I also had a guy literally stalk me for the only pair of 15 pound dumbbells in the gym yesterday... like I was doing my thing and he was standing in the doorway watching until I was done. I was like, I promise.. I won't go anywhere nor will I give them away!0 -
I saw a guy the other day lifting with gardening gloves o_O
people making weird exercises. I have so many weird stuff I don't even know were to begin.0
