Insane last 2 weeks for me

I have been on vacation for the last 2 weeks. My family and friends have been expecting me to eat/drink like crazy. My mom made shepards pie/chicken Alfredo/and some Sausage and stuffing dish. I tried a little of each because I didn't want her to feel unappreciated and it was delicious. My grandmother brought us to an upscale breakfast buffet complete with amazing desserts. My friends want to go out partying every night, which is a blast but they do not count calories as frequently as I do. I'm having so much fun but am extremely worried that it will be hard going back to to eating better when I get home. We did not think it would be a problem eating healthy most of the time, but it is! Another example is my dad pushing us to get candy apples and fried dough at the fair today. I enjoyed it but it is not something I would normally enjoy because of the guilt association.

I'm worried when I get home I just won't care enough to continue keeping this 40 lbs I have lost so far off. I weighed myself before we left and I was 104 I weighed myself today and was 110 :/

Advice? Past experiences? Check out my diary to be wowed lol

Vacations are meant to be fun, but yeah, it's seriously easy to over-indulge. You do have to draw upon your own willpower to avoid temptation. You definitely have it, you've lost 40 pounds! So don't beat yourself up about having a small setback, but instead, look for opportunities to keep on a reasonable path and trust yourself that when you get back to "real life", you'll get back on track just like you were before. Believe me, it's waaaayyy easier to stick to "the plan" when regular everyday life starts up again. This vacation is just an anomaly.

Is anyone in your family on-board with you and your weight loss? If even one of them is, you have an ally... ask that person to help you. When your dad suggests a candied apple, ask your ally to split it with you. When you go to the breakfast buffet, pick out small portions of what you want and balance it out with fruits instead of loading up multiple plates with all the carb-y starch-y goods they have to offer. If you really want those carbs, again ask your ally to split it with you.

If you really wanna make this work while you're on vacation, you can't let yourself make excuses. Desserts don't have to be eaten just because they're there, and you also don't have to eat all of it even if you do get some. I went to a buffet with friends recently and purposely kept my back to the desserts, just loaded up my plate with salad and veggies and all my favorite toppings. I also ate slowly, tried to take one bite for every 2 or 3 that others took, so I would get full around the same time they finished gorging. They had 4-5 full plates, I had 2 with lots of white space.

If you feel guilty about eating something, then don't guilt-eat it... just because someone makes food doesn't mean you HAVE to eat it! It's perfectly reasonable to say "it looks delicious and I'd love to try it later, but I'm just not all that hungry right now". They don't have to know that "later" won't ever come. Also, with your friends who want to go out partying... you can still limit your calories, and take the time out as an opportunity to sneak in some exercise =) Park the car farther away so you get more walking, or better yet, walk the whole way to the bar/club. Dance to the music while everyone's chatting over it, even if it means you're just boppin' along in your little space there. Mix your liquor with diet soda water, you get the same amount of booze and calories while having a glass that will last longer. If you're a wine drinker, get a wine spritzer instead.
  • We were out of town the first week of this month and I came home to being way behind with my workload. We have only worked out a couple of times and I have not pulled myself off my maintenance calories. I have eaten below maintenance and the five pounds I put on that week have been coming off. Four of them are gone. I'm just cutting myself some slack and going to get back to it. I'm waiting on my new Insanity program to get here and I'm sure that is going to be all of the motivation I need. If you don't get back to your regular diet and working out I'm sure you can figure out something that will motivate you too. You have been successful in the past and you can be again. I have faith in you (and me, lol!). =)
