Why the hell am I so hungry!

Seriously! I am 5'2 and 123lbs. Been losing weight slowly the past 8 months, only want to lose about another 10lbs. For a while I did the pretty low cal about 1300 a day thing. But after a few months and getting more knowledgable on the whole weight loss thing I made sure to eat above my bmr which is 1360. Im on my feet all the time, walk a lot, jog a few times a week, but not extremely active so my tdeeis about 1800-1900. I've been netting about 1550 a day for the past few months. But I am so hungry. I dont mean I want to binge or eat crap. I was never this hungry when I was on lower calories. But if I go over about 1600 I wont be getting much of a deficit under my tdee. Do you think maybe my tdee is higher and my body needs more food? With my schedule its easier for me to eat small amounts more often. Ive found the past few months if I go a couple hours without something ( I mean anything just something small even) I am ravenous! Its like my body wants to be constantly eating! I havent actually lost weight in over a month and I think its cos Ive been netting about 1650 rather than the 1400 I was doing a while before that. So Im kinda confused. Has anyone else had similar problem? Did you up your calories or was it just a phase? I even had a day last week where I ate about 2000 just by upping my portions thninking that might help, but it made me hungrier the next day haha. Anyways I was just looking for any opinions or advice! Thanks for reading!

Its all about making the correct macro nutrient choices. If you eat more protein rich foods, large portions of vegetables and salad, you will you will feel more satisfied. Avoid calorie dense foods and calorie dense liquids, eat your calories don't drink them, and its surprising how full you can feel even when kcals are low. Hope this helps

Thank you for replying! Thing is Im pretty good that way, I eat high protein high fibre and mainly veg. Thats the strange thing, Im literally craving more of the same stuff that I always eat, and I think itd be pretty bad to deny my body healthy food if Im hungry? Like the other evening after my big veggie stir fry about an hour later all I could think of was a poached egg. At least if it was junk I was after Id know it was a silly craving! Perhaps I should cut out some of my wholegrain carbs and fruit and just go more veg and protein. Maybe its just a change I need! :)
  • I'm really really new to this, but do you drink enough water??

If you are craving a poached egg then you probably are not eating enough protein. Do you combine beans and rice? I dont know if you eat fish or dairy but Greek yogurt has a lot of protein. almonds are good too...Sometimes, its just plain old hormones!

Actually I've been pretty interested in this, I was looking at the 2 day a week fast I cant remember what its called. I havent got any kind of medical problems but I sometimes get very weak if I go without food and Im not just sitting around at home, my blood sugars get low I guess, would this kind of thing help that? I got drunk one night a few weeks ago and couldnt eat anything the next day, I was thinking to myself if only I could do this more often haha

I eat a lot of protein, especially greek yogurts, almonds and chicken, hemp protein and eggs. I think its the yolk Im craving! That delicious sweet goo. I think youre onto something with the hormones, I always get hungrier around T.O.M but a month and a half of it isnt normal for me! But hormones are unfair!

I find this method very good because, you only have an 8hr feeding window to fit in you daily calories.
And your biggest meal is your last about 50% you go to bed feeling full, which for me can be hardest time you know fridge raiding and all that lol
I would give it a try you get used to fasting after a few days, it becomes second nature.

I still don't know how I did when I was eating only 1200 caloreis...I was on tracking and losing till a point I stopped. Then I was told to add workout and increase calories...that's when all the troubles came. Now I am eating 1640 and I am hungry...I just had a whole wheat sandwich with turkey breast and lettuce. Seriously I could eat another one...I wonder what is really happening to our bodies here...

My nutritionist has often told me that if I'm still hungry after a meal to have more protein. That means have another steak. Just eat another chicken breast. Your body is telling you something. Listen to it.

I'm 5'3" and I eat protein at least 4 times a day and don't limit my protein intake at all. I have my fatty proteins during the day and for dinner I'll eat lean proteins and lots of veg. Water helps, but I don't think that is always the answer.

If you are concerned, go talk with a nutritionist to ensure that you are eating enough for your body and your exercise.

Honestly curious...if not tracking protein, how do you stay within calorie intake limit? I am trying my best to plan out all the food I will eat throughout the entire day but by the end of the day I always feel hungry...

That makes sense alright and Itd be nice to get used to eating more in one go again, Im so used to regular small amounts that I find it hard to go out for dinners or have portions at friends houses that they would usually eat. I know theres nothing wrong with regular small meals but it has really increased my apetite as far as Im concerned compared to when I ate more less often. Ill read up on the group you gave me thanks :)

The phenomenon is yo-yo dieting. You eat less, lose poundage, and stop. Then your hunter-gatherer response kicks in, telling your body that the famine is over, and now is the time to fill up those stores of fat again because the game is plentiful again. And if you listen to your hunger, you gain it all back and more.

That is why maintenance is the most difficult part of dieting.

The solution? Suffer until your body gets used to it.

I hear ya, I think I would keel over from shock if I ate that low again but at the time I was fine. Are you a similar height and weight to me if you dont mind me asking? And are you still losing? I mean I dont mind eating more If It means Im losing but nearly 2 months with nothing and eating more/balancing that with excercise and Im kinda like... maybe I should calm down with the ol food train

I pretty much have protein with every meal, if I ate much more Id be going over my maintanence :/ Do you eat much healthy fats? People always say protein is so filling but I dont find it that long lasting..

Noooo! I dont want to hear that :p I just dont know why my body is responding this much considering I never went lower than 1300 and I gradually upped my cals to 1450 then 1500 and now Im just crazy for more. 1500 should be a pretty magic number for me. But no, suffer it is? :( Sigh, eating cake was easier hehe

Hi, dear, I am a few inch taller than you and a few pounds heavier. I lost about 10 pounds last year by eating 1200 calories then I hit the wall and stopped losing. Then I tried exercise, weight lifting, eating more...now my weight went back to square one. I have not figured out any way to make progress again yet. but I have to ...It's no turning back process. :( I will report back once I find out more...Good luck to you. You sound really sweet and cute. :)

Re "eating cake was easier". Totally. Sometimes when I feel so depressed, I cry out "why do I have to do all this hard work to gain weight? might just have eaten all I want and I might have been skinnier..."

But with lean gains you eat more calories on the days you train so its like a relief day
