So after hearing people talk about this, i decided to calculate my own BMR and TDEE.

My BMR: 1453
My TDEE: 2253

To loose 17 lbs in 17 weeks I would need to east 1753

**I used the following website to figure this out: http://thefitgirls.com/tdee-calculator.aspx#.T7qoBlJP66Q**

Does this seem right? I understand the concept of this whole TDEE thing, but still confused about it.**

Hi, assuming your BMR of 1453 is correct and you are moderately active (moderate exercise 3-5 times per week) then this sounds right.

Apparently you need to be at a 3500 calorie deficit per week to lose 1lb of fat so 500 calories under your TDEE per day would equate to this (as you say, 1753)

This all assumes you will not eat any further exercise calories back and your activity level (moderate) is realistic.

Funny you posted this because just calculated mine without even seeing this post! I'm kind of confused about mine. Actually, I'm more confused as to why MFP is telling me I can only have 1200 cal/day.

My BMR is 1315 (5'1", 114lbs, 26 years old, moderately active)

Using the Harris Benedict Equation, it said I needed 2038 cal/day to maintain my weight.

Thus, if I wanted to lose 1lb/week, I would need a 500 calorie deficit each day, right? making the calories I needed to eat per day to lose 1lb/week 1538. BUT MFP tells me 1200...

Assuming the BMR calculator is correct...can someone help me out with this?

I believe this is because the calculations on MFP always assume you will eat your exercise calories back so you get a lower initial value. I am guessing a bit with the calculations but assuming it has based your value on 1315*1.2 (1578 for sedentary) then deducting 500 would be 1078 but shown as 1200 (as it is considered dangerous to eat below this). Then any exercise you do above normal you would eat back.

In my case my TDEE is 3200 and I wish to lose 2lb per week so I should eat approx 2200 based on a moderate activity level. MFP shows that I can eat about 1700 calories and I then eat back any exercise calories (which tends to be around 500+ per day).
