Anyone out there lifting weights at home? Or some other way of doing resistance training? I get cardio done at home but know I need to do some toning.... Unfortunately the gym is not an option for me as they don't have childcare :(

I do hand weights in conjunction with an exercise ball and change it up with resistance bands. Don't let the little elasitc bands fool you, if you use the right resistance you can hurt yourself.

I have a Jillian Michaels DVD called Ripped in 30, great for home workouts and she uses weights. Having a video to work out to, was better than going at it alone because I had no clue what exercises to do. It's also cheap; the dvd was 9 dollars on Amazon + weights from Walmart were like five bucks. I've also seen the her videos at Walmart for around 10 bucks each. Hope this helps!!!

    Kettle bells and stretch bands.

My trainer does a lot of work with people who have minimum equipment and don't go to gyms, also do exercises that use your own bodyweight - I think there is a book just on that.

I have a couple apps I use for Droid - the daily arms, daily butt, daily ball...there are a few. They are free for the basic versions, then $1-2 for the expanded versions (definitely worth it). She walks through different moves with weights, and it's timed and really easy to follow. Beyond that, I haven't gotten into any more serious lifting because I haven't invested in anything beyond hand weights yet.

I just bought a Book Called "You Are Your Own Gym" by Mark Lauren. He trains Marines Special Forces in the Military. It is amazing what you can do with your own body weight!!

I bought the book when the Best Trainer I know told me that Body Weight Resistance that is Multi Planar recruits more muscle than Machines or Barbels.

In his book he explains how to make things like pushups into high intensity muscle building exercises...there are dozens of ways to do pushups.

He has a Website. I bought the book not only because of what that trainer said (She is totally ripped as well), but because my 52 year old joints are getting in tolerant of Good Old Fashioned Iron Pumping.

I'm doing the stronglifts 5x5 minimalist program...it's for those that are limited with equipment at the gym or home. I have a few items(bar, etc) that I'm using. Google the program and download the spreadsheet for it. I have one on google docs if you would like it. Then, youtube the moves to learn them well.

    Good luck :)
