P90x- What size/weight dumbells??

I'm about to order P90x (I'm finishing up Jillian Michaels Body Revolution and getting ready to start something new).
I have done a bunch of research online but I can't find any info on how heavy of weights I should get. I currently have only 3, 5, and 8s. I'm pretty sure those will be too light, although they were fine with the Body Rev program.
I'm still fairly new to lifting, so I don't want to go too heavy, but is there anyone who's done P90x and can give me an idea of the weights I should have?
Thanks!

You certainly could start out with the ones you have and then add to them. P90X is so individualized that the need could be different for each person. You really have several options.... I think if you add 10lb, 15lb, 20lb & 25lb that these would be plenty for quite a while. Often you can find them used. Or if you want to make the investment, adjustable weights are really nice because you can have 2.5 lb increments instead of 5 lb increments. One other option is resistance bands - these are also used in P90x videos. these would be much less expensive for you too
good luck!0 -
I just you my 5 and 8 pound weights for P90x. It's pretty tough...and I am pretty lame when it comes to having upper body strength. :-/ How did you like JM's Body Revolution? I almost ordered it over P90x but it was still so new and I hadn't heard much results wise so I ordered P90x instead. What kind of results did you get?0

natvanessa, I agree with mariacolumbus. It's a program that varies from person to person, and can even vary for one person over time. For example, I've done two rounds of P90X During my first round I was only able to curl 12lbs weights. During this current round I curl 20-25 lbs. The folks I've trained with have gotten really creative when needing to add resitance, but didn't want to purchase new weights. They have bought resistance bands instead and will use the weights and bands at the same time. It appear to be working for them... so feel free to give that a shot.
Good luck and feel free to friend me if you want to check in with a group who is experienced with P90X... I wouldn't be doing Doubles if it wasn't for them0 -
I have from 4's to 25's and they all get used. I started curling 10's with p90x (was curling 8's prior) and now I'm up to curling 15's. Certain back exercises I use the 20's-25's. Legs, a variety. I tried the bands and I personally did not like them. Some of the moves were just so awkward. I wish I would've had the money to purchase one of the adjustable weights but I got a pretty killer deal for my weights off of Craigslist. But some people love the bands. It's all about personal preference and finding out what works best for you.0
