Thoughts on coffee- hinder weightloss?

i regularly have skinny lattes from a coffee shop. They are a chain so provide nvs. Do you think that essentially coffee x skimmed milk is going to hinder my loss if I count the calories. I hear all sorts on these forums. Some good, some silly but this one I wanted to check out....

I've been drinking coffee throughout. If its coffee at home, I just log the milk I use (don't take sugar). If I have a coffee out I use their websites to log the actual cals. So long as it fits in my limits, no prob!0
-
I'd say no - as long as you count it.
You can find some info that says coffee isn't good for weight loss - but I find I have more get up and go with a coffee, so it's helping me.0 -
Lattes/coffee have (or don't have) carbs, sugar, calories, vitamins, etc just like every thing else. And if they have nvs, use it and log it like you do every thing else. Stay within your MFP limits and it's a non-issue.0

I have been drinking 2-6 cups of black coffee almost every day this year (since I started my weight loss). Not an in depth study but I would say it does not hinder weight loss.0
-
I think it helps since it blunts my appetite.0

I love coffee, drinking few cups a day and it doesn't affect my weight loss. I drink black coffee no sugar, but if I fancy a lattee or similar I would just log it in. One a day shouldn't make a differrence. Enjoy it!0

Why would drinking coffee hinder your weight loss? Even with milk and sugar it can only be about 40 kc a cup. Now if you're drinking 10 cups a day and those are large ones, then maybe you need to think about cutting back.. although with that kind of caffeine boost you'll probably need to do it gently!
Any beverage you are used to having, as long as it's drunk in moderation, is not going to hinder your weight loss as long as you are within your calorie limits and exercising  :drinker:0 -
I have a 2ltr bottle of water on my desk and I drink this throughout the day then when I get home in the evening I have a couple of black coffees with a sweetner or coffee with skimmed milk and a sweetner. I love my coffee so cant give it up totally but as long as I drink my 2ltrs of water I day this is my treat in the evening :-)0

If coffee hindered weight loss I'd have to give up on the idea on losing weight. I drink 2 cups a day and there's no way I'm giving it up.0

If you're counting it in your calories, you're good. The same thing goes for chocolate, wine, hard liquor, beer, and bacon. You can eat anything you want - as long as you have a healthy diet you're adding it to and you keep it inside your calorie allotment.
Keep your macros (proteins, fats, carbohydrates) in reasonable balance, get all your nutrients, drink plenty of water, and anything that fits in the remaining cracks (and you can fit a LOT of coffee in the remaining cracks!) is perfectly fine.0 -
I've drank 2 cups of coffee a day all along.0

I drink coffee everyday just as long as it’s within my calorie allotment for the day. I usually have a cup of coffee with a tbs. of fat free half and half and a Splenda. Delish!0
-
Coffee helps me with weight loss - I drink two cups in the morning with breakfast, and two cups in the late afternoon. I use fat free creamer and log the calories. The afternoon coffees really help with cravings and pre-dinner snacking. Just don't drink it too late if you're sensitive to caffeine- you'll be up all night and starving!0

I wouldnt survive the day without coffee. But I've lost almost 50 lbs so far and I drink 2-5 cups EVERY day. So I would say its not hurting anything.0
-
coffee itself, the caffeine, rather, has a thermogenic effect which accelerates fat burn. lattes and cappucinos, on the other hand, are another matter entirely because of all the other crap that goes into them. VERY bad.0
-
Hell no. coffee actually speeds up the metabolism. Now coffee with a ton of sugar and milk in it will hurt you, but if its "skinny" or light and fits into your calories/macros go for it0
-
coffee per-se no
Not realising how many calories are in store drings - possibly
My cup of instant coffee and mil is about 50cals - Costa and Starbuks manage to make that about 4-5000 -
Yep, coffee helps me greatly with curbing my appetite after work. I drink 2 6oz cups a day and I think it his helpful more than harmful for me. Yes, the caffiene is not good for you, but it won't affect weight loss. In fact, there are some studies that show it actually boosts metabolism.0

There is some research on this topic out there. I personally drink it most days, but I brew it at home. If you are doing it yourself, you know exactly what is in there. If you don't, you don't So if you are not sure, it might be a good idea to ask how many cals are in the latte and what exact ingredients are there. But all in all, I think that in moderation there is nothing wrong with drinking coffee on a diet.
Found this article and thought you might find it interesting.

Coffee isn't going to hinder weight loss - unless you are loading it up with a ton of creamer and sugars and turning a 5 calorie cup of coffee into a 100 calorie cup of coffee and not accounting for it...
Coffee can be a diauretic so you do want to make sure you are drinking plenty of water also to offset those effects.
It CAN be a bit detrimental if all you are doing is drinking coffee all day long and not hydrating your body...as it could cause some dehydration so your body may retain whatever water it does get either through food or other drinks. But a cup or two or 3 in addition to a good amount of water shouldn't affect very much of anything.
I find it amusing that certain high profile trainers who have books on the market talk about coffee and how caffine isn't all that great and you should limit yourself to only 1-2 cups a day...when said trainers have "diet pills" on the market where the main ingrediant is CAFFINE....
- Note I am sure you can all guess whom I am talking about and I think they are great people and do a lot of good for a lot of people...anyone that can get people up and get moving and get motivated is great in my book...but to sit and talk about how weight loss is fairly straightforward and if you simply follow the rules (i.e. eat less, eat the right foods and exercise more) and it will work...listened to one of them doing a radio interview yesterday and one the rules was "no more than 2 cups of coffee and none after noon" -ummm why???? and then also have a "diet pill" on the market (full of caffine) that part just bugs me...0 -
A calorie is a calorie regardless of where it comes from. As long as you are counting them and being accurate - it shouldn't matter.0
-
nahh. I drink coffee almost daily.
not that it's the best thing nutritionally... but I don't think it's bad as long as you have the calories allotted for it.
& if anything I'd say it helps weight loss simply because caffeine gives you energy = more movement = more calories burned. but that's just a vague assumption I guess.0 -
I drink coffee at home and work, but I drink it black. It doesn't affect my metabolism in a negative way.0

Exactly! Coffee is the one thing that I enjoy that I haven't had to cut back on or cut out all together.
Hand over the coffee and no one gets hurt!!! :drinker:0 -
I drink Boresha coffee and tea. It has helped me to consistently lose as well as burn fat. We call it "Skinny Coffee". Let me know if you would like to know more. :drinker:0

Log all your calories, whether they are liquid or solid food calories.0

An article in the most recent issue of Pointe magazine (a magazine for ballet dancers) discusses coffee and its affects on health and fitness.
Basically, the caffeine encourages your body to retain its glycogen stores longer, which means that the body can burn fat as fuel instead. This can help your endurance because that means your body has glycogen to use later on, which allows you to exercise longer.
The article also said that coffee was not dehydrating, so that's good.
Caffeine can cause the body to lose calcium, so be mindful of that.0 -
I say if it does...who cares!!! No really...I think as long as you stay within your limits, you gotta have some stuff you love...remember, it isn't a diet, it is a lifestyle change. No coffee in your life....NO WAY0
