I decided to start losing weight 1 year on May 19, 2011. Through 2011 I just tried to eat better, exercise more and I cut out soft drinks. On December 31, 2011 I had lost 50 pounds. I then decided to give MFP a try starting Jan 1 and have since lost another 50 pounds for 100 pounds total in a year and 6 days. MFP has helped motivate me, keep me accountable for both diet and exercise and has taught me a lot about the content of a lot of foods that I eat and some that I used to eat. MFP has also made my weight loss more consistent and the average weight loss per week is greater. My plan now is to keep going and lose another 21 pounds at which point my Wii Fit (which I use as a scale) will stop calling me overweight (one of the highlights of my journey was the day my Wii Fit stopped calling me obese) and then I'll reevaluate to determine what I want to do from there. It's been a great journey so far and I'm proud to have accomplished what I have so far. I feel better, I have more energy, I don't have pain in my knees and feet like I used to and I like the changes. The last time I weighed this amount was in 1997. For those that are just getting started I can tell you for sure that it can be done but it's not easy. The funny thing is that it really isn't hard either, it just takes dedication, persistence and patience. For me it was eat better and exercise more, I would find it difficult to lose weight without exercise but the combination of diet and exercise pays off over time.

I couldn't agree more with this statement. I've often told people that ask that it has actually been quite easy. Well done for what you've achieved. Feel free to add me.

I have to agree with you.
Having to look for healthier foods to substitute into my diet at first was a little challenging (because I like carbs, choc, etc)
Now that I am eating healthier the weight has been coming off slow and steady without too much exercise. I am hoping I don't jinx myself.
I think if you find the right calorie goal, like I think I have, and eat wholesome nutritious foods, you shouldn't feel hungry. Thats half the battle. Also everything in moderation.

Hunger makes me moody, binge all that crazy stuff.
Patience is the key thing, I don't want to only loos 1lb a week, but I know I am more likely not to gain the weight back this way and keep with the healthy foods.

I agree however I think it is reasonable to lose 2.5 lbs per week but it has to be both diet and exercise. I don't think I could have lost the weight with diet alone. I find that exercise also helps manage hunger and keep me from bingeing. It's a balance act, eat better (not necessarily less but a healthy amount for you) and exercise more, which has all sorts of benefits.

Congrats, what a great accomplishment! I am about 5 pounds away from being overweight (not obese) on the wii fit and I am sooooo looking forward to that weigh in day. :)

Thanks and good luck to you. That darn little voice on the Wii Fit can just be maddening ;-) It's funny how it became the big goal for me for so long, much more so than numerically significant goals that you'd think would be more significant.
