Haha. I've had a few tell me I need to read it and it's plastered all over my newsfeed on Facebook. Out of curiousity I had one of my co-workers who is reading it tell me the storyline. I was like  no thanks.

It's plastered all over my newsfeed too. And that's ok. It's their life, their time to waste. (Strange, though, how they'd probably get all upset if men posted how, "I just got finished "reading" the latest issue of Penthouse, going to take a "shower" now. ;) I, however, have no urge to to read it. And they keep trying to force it on me. "It's sooooo hot, you've got to read it, you'll get addicted just like us." Um. No.

Ugh...I'm getting the same thing about this stupid trilogy. It sounds like a Harlequin romance on Viagra. I have no interest, either.

I've heard it's a backseat baby of Twilight and a really bad bdsm porn movie.

i'm intrigued only because i'm familiar with bdsm in real life and i'm interested in how it's portrayed in print. as far as the plotline? not so much, k thanks.

I read the reviews for this book. Read the reviews. The reviews say it all. Out of 50 reviews I read maybe 1-3 good ones.

I have also heard and read from the reviews and other web sites, 50 shades of gray is a rip off of twilight. I will not be reading these to find out.

Funny I came across this post. I saw that book laying on my Mother's table & wondered what it was about. ?

    Ahaha, I'm reading it. It's funny. Why shouldn't I?

If we only read "high standard" books we'd have nothing to compare with.
  • Yeah I don't get it. If you want to read porn then read porn. I just don't get why 50 shades of grey has put reading porn on the forefront and become the topic among women. It seems absurd to me. A lady can read it but she certainly doesn't need talk about it or push it on her friends. We all know how to find that stuff if and when we want it.
I think the internet and face book has made people forget everyone doesn't need to know everything about you! or care!

I read the trilogy. While it is erotic, there is a good story and I found it rather engaging. If it's your thing then read it, if not, don't.

I really appreciate the freedoms we have and the choices we can make.

From what I can tell from goodreads.com reviews, it started as Twilight fanfic, named Master of the Universe or some such, complete with the names Edward and Bella, but became so popular among horny housewives that it got a rewrite with new names and less sparkles and became 50 Shades of Grey, then actually got published, cause why the foop not, and proceeded to titillate women across the globe.

Interesting. I've seen some of the buzz here on MFP, but didn't know it had started as fan fiction.

I found this article to be informative - http://www.blogher.com/50-shades-grey-when-if-fan-fiction-not-fan-fiction

I think I'd rather just read short story erotica.

All of the action without messing around with a drawn-out story line.

Consider yourself warned that the Fifty Shades of Grey is actually a Trilogy:

Book 1: Fifty Shades of Grey ~ Book 2: Fifty Shades Darker ~ Book 3: Fifty Shades Freed

I saw them all for sale at Costco & have no interest in reading ANY of them.

Ha! I didnt know that! I used to read twilight fanfiction and I read some of Master of the Universe. I was cheesy but I think all fanfic is so I took it for what is was and I enjoyed it. I don't think I'll be reading 50 Shades of Grey anytime soon though.

I was NOT interested in Twilight whatsoever because it's some trashy teenage love story , that has no literary value. This book seems worse, I don't feel the need or want to read a "spin-off" or fan-fic of Twilight. Even without the Twilight aspect of it, I am not interested in reading an erotic novel, or series. As a writer (still in college) it bothers me that these are the types of books that get all of the hype.

Please tell me that you reasonable people on this board will read my Sci-Fi and Fantasy novels when they come out and tell your friends to read them. Sorry, it won't be erotic. :noway:

That's mainly what I read, sci-fi and fantasy, with some regular fiction thrown in for spice. Atwood is a favorite.

I haven't read much Atwood, but I do like what I have read of hers. I'm a huge fan of Vonnegut.

Yup, I've just gone to purchase my semi-automatic. Too bad there's a three day wait in my state. (jokes people, rest assured I'm probably not going to kill anyone over 50 Shades. Probably...)
