What have you learned on your weight loss journey so far!

I want to know what people have learned about themselves and their lives once they started getting healthier and making better choices. For example I learned exercise is a better high than caffeine. Please shoot me your thoughts!

One thing I have learned tho, is that I feel more confident with each pound I lose.0 -
I am stronger than I thought (both mentally and physically).
The world won't end if I don't start my day with a Pepsi.0 -
Nobody told me the road would be easy, but I've come TOO far to turn around now0

I am generally an upbeat and positive person. But, now, I am HAPPY! Been so long and it feels so GREAT! I am finally doing something just for me and nothing but positive has come from it!0

I don't mind the word journey
I've learnt that there are lots of different ways to lose weight/get healthy, but that it really doesn't matter which one you pick - just find something that makes sense to you and works for your body and your lifestyle and stick with it.
It's not the details that make the difference, it's the perseverance.0 -
I've learned that:
- I can do it.
- The support on this site is amazing.
- I would recommend that everyone add friends here immediately. The feedback is wonderful.
- I am stronger physically and mentally.0 -
Most advice in the forums is worthless as it's too general at best and outright false at worst.0

i learned that I actually enjoy working out, but didn't enjoy it as much when I was hungover all the time. Switching to exercise and outdoor activities was more enjoyable then parties and hangovers, even though i still like the other two, i don't do them nearly as much. I also learned that you should take all the information you read and apply it to your life in the best way you can. Not everythign works for everyone and it's all trial and error with some proven facts.0

As someone else pointed out the "journey" is different for everyone. I've achieved far more by combining tracking here with Weight Watchers meetings and weigh ins (accountability) than I could have with either one alone. It is really important not to let an off week throw you off. I've had two of those in 16 weeks and still lost 35 pounds since February. Ultimately I know I'll have to be accountable to myself without WW, but I don't think I'm quite there yet . I've also learned that fitting into clothes I haven't worn since 1990 isn't always a good thing as styles have changed0

I have learned that I'm really strong, both physically and mentally. I'm a tough cookie. I feel like nothing can stop me from doing what I really want to do in life if I'm willing to put in the hard work. I believe in me now.0

The biggest thing I learned that my actual limits exceed what I believe them to be. Great feeling to have these accomplishments.0

Probably the most obvious thing ever.......Food.....is a drug.....and it's addictive.0

Pizza does not make me gain 3lbs over night and I still love it0

i've learned that it really is just as simple as eating healthy and exercising a lot. when i say simple i mean un-complicated not easy! it's definitely hard work but if you look at the bigger picture it's a simple idea. with this in mind i am starting to see results! i believe it is in the right mindset that you will succeed0

I have learned no matter what effort you put in, it will take you a very long time to see the results you want. It is all a patience game but so worth it in the end.0

I learned i can do a lot more than i thought & that my will power ab food is much stronger thn i thought. In the beginning, I hated to exercise. Now I love it. In fact, when my 1 day off a week comes, I miss it. It's addicting. Fitness has slowly become my life. I eat sleep & dream it. I literally do dream ab doing Turbo Fire LOL
This has been one of the hardest & more stressful thing I've done. It's such an emotional rollercoaster. 1 day ur happy cuz u lost weight & the next day ur upset cuz u didn't. But it's making me stronger even if I feel weak sumtimes.
I know I've proven myself to others, cuz when I said I was going to do this no1 believed me. 8 months & 47lbs later, no 1 doubts me.
I was actually upset about this whole journey earlier. This post made me think & it helped. Thanks OP.0 -
I have learner that I am stronger than I imagined. I quit smoking nearly 5 months ago. I did not start exercising for a while after. Since coming here to mfp eating better and exercising makes not smoking a firmer commitment. It just does not fit with my life now.0

that "moderation not deprivation" is still the way to go!!!! eat what you want just don't over do it0

I've learned that not every meal has to contain meat or cheese... not that I am going vegetarian mind you but the little changes alone are huge.
That exercising is not the big bad scary thing I thought it was.0 -
I have learned
- that I'm worth it
- that taking care of myself means valuing my health over a quick fix of something tasty
- that food is fuel and needs to be separate from my feelings
- that my body is physically capable of much more than I think it is
- that I don't push myself enough
- that telling certain people about my lifestyle change/weight (if they ask) inspires me and them
- that watching hot guys lift weights in the gym makes me enjoy cardio SO much more!0 -
That the word tone doesn't mean what I thought it meant.
That when my trainer says "Do you want to try heavier?", or "You are really strong" I almost burst from pride.0 -
1. I have learned that small changes are easier to adapt to.
2. I have learned that working out can actually be my friend.
3. I have learned that I am going to be successful even if I lose only a pound a week. Im not in a race.0
