I thought about a pixie too, but in reading some stuff, the stylist mags say it is best on super petitie women. I went with short, but not pixie. I thought about shorter, but my hair stylist thought not, so I didn't. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I think it depends on the shape of your face more than your body. Pixie cuts don't look good on all thin women either.
This! And I say if you want it, go for it. The worst that can happen is you don't like it and you grow it out. You'll never know if you don't try.

How about an a-line? Longer in front, short and layered in back. That might help your face look narrower, since it sounds like that's your concern.

I love the red hair and think it would be really cute if you did a long pixie... you know, longer in the front, very angled. It all depends on the stylist and how they take your face into consideration. I'd bet you have the face for it, though.

I'd rather start with a long pixie, almost bob, and then go short from there .. I'm thinking something along the lines of this, though:

JMO, but I would cry if some hairdresser did that to my hair.

    lolol me too!

really depends on the shape of your face

Too short for my face, but I think it's really cute!

Oh, another tip: if you are not sure how short to go, do it gradually. Maybe go to the shoulder first, then chin, etc. You can always go shorter as you get used to it and like it, but it'll take a long time to grow back out if you don't.

Whether or not it will look good is more a question of your facial features than your size. If you are nervous, start with an angled bob instead. It is short in back and longer on the sides and can be with or without bangs. I say go for it. Its just hair. It will grow back if you don't like it.

I personally, I've never regretted cutting my hair short. I've never been pixie-short, but every time I cut my hair above my shoulders, I wonder why I ever grew it out.

I've got a pixie cut and love it. I'm a little over 200 lbs 5'6" but I have a oval face. I've been told by many folks it makes me look slimmer and it brings out my eyes. This picture is okay, but doesn't do the cut justice.

My thought is this, it's just hair, if you don't like it it'll grow back. As someone else said... It's all in the attitude. Life's too short to be timid, take the bull by the horns and have fun!

I'm overweight and have a pixie cut. I can't stand my hair long. My hairdresser says it looks good on me and I've had strangers complement my hair.

It's not really so much about having that cut on a large woman, it's how it looks on you in general. Some women can rock it, some can't regardless of weight.

I think it all depends on the shape of your face and your preferences. I love short hair and love pixie cuts. It is a pain to grow them out though, I am growing one out now. With that being said, I love the sassy short hair style. I recently had super long hair, and when I had my second baby, I just didn't have time for the work of long hair. It took so long to wash it and even to brush it. So I went short again. Love it. I also love to play with color and shorter hair makes it much easier.

From a guy's perspective, I think there's very few girls who look good with a Pixie cut. But, you're not trying to impress me, so do what you like.

I agree it's more about your features than about your size. I have what would probably be called a pixie cut (based on the fact that some people have taken to calling me Tinkerbell since my last haircut) and I really like it. I've gotten lots of compliments on it and many people have told me I look younger with it.

I hated my hair and needed a change. I got it cute pretty short for me. See in my pic? I really kinda hate it. I hated my hair before too though so I think it's just my face I have a problem with. Anyways, dont rush into anything. Change the color first, then see how you feel.

Just for kicks, I found this one too. I always thought Natalie Imbruglia was super cute.

I think you should go for it! I have had different variations of short hair cuts and people always comment they love it because a) it makes you look younger b) it makes you look fresher and c) it's just a little bit different to soooo many long hair styles out there.
Make sure you get a cool colour though, otherwise it will just look boring - good luck and post a pic once you have decided and done it!

Thanks guys and gals! I don't think I'm ready for the plunge to super-short just yet. I have an angled bob of sorts (or at least it was before it grew out) so I think I'm just going to take the shortest section and have the rest cut the same length and then dye it a different color. It's currently fading red/purple/pink (I'm long overdue for a color refresh) but I'm going to see if they can take me a different color altogether. =)
  • I'll hopefully be going in soon, I just can't seem to find many good pictures of bigger women with shorter cuts online! I'm not plus-size anymore, but I still worry my face is too round.
I'm a 'round face' girl even when I'm not 'larger.' I was 185lbs this past summer and I went back to a pixie cut. I don't regret it at all. Pixie cuts can look SO cute and there are so many ways to make them flatter your face, be it with the cutting or with the styling. Pixie cuts are also great when you want to focus on something other than your hair. Your hair will still look gorgeous, but you don't have to spend 15-30 minutes styling it every day. Talk about easy.

    I say go for it.

p.s. They are kind of a bite to grow out, but it really depends on how you feel about your hair. For some people growing them out is a fun process, you get to have several different hair styles (cuts) on your way to growing it out. For some others, (like me who like their hair OUT OF THEIR FACE), it can be a little more troublesome. I've done pixie-to-grown-out several times since 2003 and I've found ways to get around the annoying growing out stages though.

Just wanted to pump you up, whatever you choose, I had long hair when I took the plunge to a SHORT pixie. I have never regretted it. Washing my hair for the first time after having a pixie cut was like being reborn. LOL. It is symbolic of starting new. (For me it was). Another plus, talk about having fresh, healthy hair!

I hope whatever you choose you are happy walking out of the salon.

p.s. It's hair, it will grow back. :D

This. I've had a pixie for almost 25 years now, 5-10 240 lbs and i've had stylists say it looks great for me. I always hated long hair. Apparently the key is your hair texture, mine's extremely thick so it works out pretty good.
