Fifty Shades of Boring

Fifty Shades of Boring – OK that may be a bit harsh. The first quarter of the book was a captivating page turner. Half way in I was still interested. But by the time I got to the last quarter I was quite frankly bored with all the sex and cat and mouse games repetitiously looping over and over again..and the fact that there is absolutely no other plot. Maybe because I'm too much of a scifi-paranormal fan I thought there would be kinky sex AND then they would save the world from aliens (the outerspace kind). Maybe it's the fact that the author made this a trilogy and I have to hang in there for 2 more books to reach the predictable end where Ana and Christian live happily ever after. Couldn't she have achieved this in one book? I don't like Christian Grey and I expect better of Ana..she's supposed to be my heroine, my Elizabeth Bennett (I love me some Jane Austen). I'm no prude, I've read about a zillion bodice rippers in my day but I don't think I can take 2 more books of endless screwing to reach the happily ever after:-/ But I would l love to hear from anyone who has read all 3. Does Christian become more likable? Is there enough of a story line to carry through 2 more books?

I haven't read this yet, I'm debating. I just sounds over hyped, I'm kind of cynical. Funny, I've never heard anyone say anything about a great plot. LOL Maybe there's your answer.

I haven't read it. I generally stay away from books that appeal to the masses.
Plus my real sex life is pretty erotica-worthy anyhow

I just finished the third one. They are incredibly overhyped. Christian does get a little better, you learn more about his past in the second two books. I wouldn't say that I disliked them but they are by no means great. The writing is poor and the story is basically Twilight if you take out vampires and werewovles and add in kinkiness.

Seriously, how many times does Ana blush in book one? I think she has rosacea. Every time one of them rolls their eyes, I now do the same. I hate that Ana's "inner goddess" is essentially a character in the book and I pretty much hate everything written in italics like, "oh my", and "wow". I'm also incredibly tired of him pushing food onto her and her never eating.

I have some other gripes about the second two books but I'll refrain for those who haven't read them.

There's a lot less kinkery in the others, so far (I'm midway thru 3), and yes, he does become more likeable. AND, the plot actually moves away from sex and into a bit more of a suspence.

I found the second and third books to be more of the same. I live the BDSM lifestyle on a 24/7 basis, the book is very highly romanticized. It is classed as erotic romance, more like erotic fantasy. I also think the books are very poorly written, I mean how many times can one explode around him, knot her fingers in his hair, bite her lip, roll her eyes, etc. The only reason I finished the books was because I paid for them.

The more I read here, I think I'll save my money and time. All I had to hear was "Twilight"....ugh!

It's only the 2nd book I've ever thrown in the trash after reading.

I was just sorry I didn't have a bird cage liner to throw on top of it. :indifferent:

I have not been able to stay awake while reading this book....which ended up being embarrassing when my iPad was on it's easel during a flight and someone took the empty seat next to me. :blushing:

But really, kinduva disappointment. And yes. I get it. He has long fingers. And apparently every time you climax you go into a million pieces. Whatevs, Ana....zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Your topic title is perfect. It got incredibly boring. I finished the series, (because I can't stand to start a series and not finish) but by the end I was in the same place you were. It was an endless loop. "He's oh so dark and moody; I just can't figure him out; sex sex sex sex." Ana seemed a weak female character no matter how much the author tried to "prove" how strong she was by putting up with his crap. Give me Edward Rochester any day.

I have read all three. If you didn't like the 1st, don't bother with the other two. Message me, I will tell you the ending.

I just don't understand someone who is having all of this so called crazy sex but calls her vag- "down there".

My friend read it and said the same thing. I think I'll pass.
Her sister said the second book is better. I still think I'll pass.
It seems like a book version of the Movie 91/2 weeks with a young Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger.

I haven't read them yet, not sure if I'm going to go with the hype or not...

OP if you want kinky, try The Sleeping Beauty Trilogy series by Anne Rice (writing as A. N. Roquelaure) No there is no Aliens zooming down, but it is kinky and decidedly weird, I'm still not entirely sure if I like them, but I read those suckers in days, they were highly addictive cause you didn't know where they were going at all.

 After reading some of the comments... maybe it was because the author was blushing...

But honestly, I have been debating... and I don't really have a high standard for what to read... but I think I may skip this as I did Twilight.... I still haven't read the latter, amazingly.

Ashamed to say I read it because I wanted to see what the fuss was about... and I was traveling for work for a whole week anyway. There is finally a love story worse than Twilight! :noway:

I almost stopped 20 pages in because the writing was so ... BAD! And my husband even pointed out it's old lady porn. Old prude lady porn, in my opinion. It was entertaining, but I won't be reading the 2nd or 3rd book.

Did y'all know it started out as a fanfiction of Twilight on FanFiction.net? It got banned for one reason or another. I'm just surprised a publisher decided to change the names and go with it!
