I was reading the 100+ loss success thread and had a question for those who have lost a lot, but didn't want to hijack the other thread. Did any of you hit an plateaus. How long did it last? How did you overcome it.

I actually did not hit a plateau, but I was extremely strict and dropped 140 lbs in 7 months. I did not miss a single day of exercise or eat more than planned, not even once. Consistency is plateau killer, IMO.0

Most definitely hit a few and pushed through them all... Just had one last month 4 weeks runnings and finally seen a pound lost this past week... I am very strict with my eating and exercise but you can be on point every second of every single day and if your body decides otherwise than it is totally out of your control... Now as I am getting to my goal weight the pounds are harder to get off cause the diet part of this becomes alot more important.. It was easy 300 lbs. ago, just create a deficit and hit my macros and the weight came off... Wasn't hard to do back then because before I had that AHA moment my daily diet was 8000+ calories a day.. and those was empty calories and I went to eating 2500 calories a day and everything I ate was good calories and macros and the weight loss was a no brainer. I weigh in on Wednesday's and if the scale didn't budge, no sweat that week is over and done, I would go over my logs check to see if there was something I could have done better, if there was I would apply it to the week ahead but if there wasn't then I would just refocus on the week ahead and get back to work.... Best of Luck....0

I had a couple that lasted a couple of week just ignore them and move on hope this helps0

Thanks all. I haven't actually plateaued yet, but it's a bit of a fear. I've had "no-loss" weeks though, but luckily, so far, they've only lasted 1 week.0

I have been on a stall for the last two months. I was sick for a couple of weeks and had a nice birthday weekend, but I have still managed to stay under goal most of the time, and I have seen the same three numbers it seems like forever. I have to figure out a way to change it up!0

I haven't quite hit the 100 pound mark but there have definitely been plateaus. Some were due to bad eating/not enough activity but some were willy-nilly as Ed experienced. There are so many factors, usually involving water retention - like high sodium intake and muscle repair - that can throw off your weigh ins. As the other said, just keep plugging and it should start coming off again. Sometimes changes in exercise or diet can help too. When you get there, we'll be here to help!0

Hi there,
Yes. I'm in one right now. I lost 112 pounds in exactly one year on MFP and for the last 6 months the scale has NOT moved. But I will say that I'm in the last 10 to 15 "vanity" pounds now and it's the hardest to get to budge. My body is recomping though the scale isn't moving. I've lost another pant size too. You can always try all the tried and true suggestions for breaking a plateau. I've done all of them. You can go to maintenance for a couple of weeks and then drop back down again. Take a week or so off hard exercise. Try zigzagging calories or even try spiking calories for a day. I also don't go below BMR.
Hang in there.0 -
I plateau about once a month for a couple of weeks. :grumble:0

I hit a plateau at about a year into my weightloss it lasted 10 months! I was stuck going up and down a couple of pounds the entire time. I finally broke it by adding serious weightlifting to my workout schedule and I reassessed what I was doing the first year and whether or not I was still complely doing those few important things.
1. Drinking at least a gallon of eater per day. While I was doing doing it most of the time I wasn't as consistent as I had been.
2. Counting calories. I was sticking to my initial amount of calories but I was not measuring everything like I used to, I was more guesstimating. Though I was close most of the time it wasn't exact.
3. Logging my food. I had stopped logging every meal. I usually logged breakfast lunch and dinner I skipped logging.
When I started weight lifting I knew I would not see the loss right away due to retaining water to repair the muscle, which often happens with newbies to weightlifting. It was the third week I really started seeing it on the scale but I had been seeing it in the mirror the whole time and in my clothes. For several weeks I dropped 3-5 lbs per week and have been averaging 2 lbs per week since. So the last 4 months I have lost 27 lbs and am within a pound of hitting 100 lbs lost. With only 36 pounds left until goal.
I think the biggest thing is to never stop trying even when your not seeing changes you sure training yourself to make it a lfestyle no matter what and eventually you will see the bennifits of your hard work. Never ever give up. No matter what! Most importantly make sure you always get your water in I find my weight loss slows down when I don't drink at least a gallon a day. I add an extra 48 oz on my gym days which are 5 days a week. Hope this helps.0 -
Don't hate me, please.
I never had a plateau.
I weighed in weekly and I am pretty sure there were only like 3 weeks (spread out - not three in a row) the entire time I was losing that I didn't record a loss.0 -
In terms of the scale yes. However I track inches and bodyfat %. That's always heading in the right direction. I also zig zag calories a, up exercise, and have even done full diet breaks. Eating @ maintenance for 5-7 days with no exercise.0

Forgot to add longest for me is 3 months. @ the time I was taking a bunch of meds for diabetes, many side effects including weight gain.0 -
The body does what the body does I have plateaued over the 4 years I have been "Living my new Lifestyle" for months on end where I have only lost a pound a month sometimes but my clothes have changed my inches change my BF% vs my Skeletal muscle% improves so I just keep living away and then one day I get on the scale and it has dropped
I dont diet anymore I just live this way so I try not to get crazy and change my exerise or stop eating and drop my calories because that isnt the way I want to live so hang in when it happens and be true to your lifestyle and it will work itself out0 -
I do plateau every once in a while and it usually lasts 2 - 3 weeks.
There was a period of time where I didn't lose for three months but that is when I quit logging my food and, quite frankly, quit caring so much. I still exercised and weighed myself regularly to not let myself go into denial. Not doing that again!0 -

LOL at don't hate you...LOL I don't hate you, I think that's awesome!0 -
Just remember everyone is different. Your body is your body and it's going to do what it wants. Keep up the GREAT work and it's going to come off.0

I am at a plateau now, but its my own fault. Food logs tell it all!!!! I will get back in gear and start loosing again, its been about 3 weeks.....I believe I am approaching my point of ok Vicki stop farting around!0
-
It also seemswhenever I approach a milestone 300 lbs 250 lbs or weight loss 150 pounds lost my weight stalls you can call me crazy but I think my body and mind like to screw with me
right now I am waiting to lose that last pound so I can say I lost 150 pounds and it has been 3 weeks just hanging between 147 and 149 and back again
go figure0 -

This exactly, and for those weeks when I didn't post a loss, it was because of my habits, not a plateau (took a weekend "off", went on vacation, etc).
I'm not sure why but I do know that while others I know were decreasing their cals as they lost weight, I was increasing mine. The longest I've gone is like 8-10 days without a loss, and those are usually followed by bigger drops on the scale than average.0 -
This lady has a really good write up on plateaus. It helped me through the plateau I hit in May. I all but stalled out for three weeks in May, this helped me get past it. At least after I reads this and made some changes I started losing again, so I'm attributing my moving past the plateau to this.

You Suck!!! LOL Only Kidding!!! That's great though.... I think mine is alittle different in that fact of the amount of weight I have lost... I know my body has been in culture shoke mode the last 35 1/2 months averaging 102 lbs. lost a year..... Now most recent plateau is self imposed I believe do to the fact I was on vacation (OBX) the end of April, first week in May but the last 3 weeks I have upped my calories again to break through it.... I was at 3200 calories and have upped again to 3400 and increased my water another 32 oz. and this past week I broke through... Its all a balancing act and everyone has to play with the numbers for their body... Best of Luck !!!!!0 -
I can't prove that I have lost over 100 yet, because I didn't bother to weigh myself on a scale that I didn't max out when I started, but it took about 2 months of working out before my weight started to register on my own scale. My ticker reflects my scale's limit, not my actual weight, whatever it was. That being said, I did plateau when I was around the 300 pound mark. I was not tracking my food at the time (I hadn't even heard of MFP yet), but I fully believe it was mental. I had so much worry and excitement and anxiety about breaking the 300 pound mark that I think it held me back for a couple months until I finally just gave up and stopped worrying, and just carried on with my life, exercise, and healthier eating. The next time I looked at the scale, a few weeks later, I had finally passed the milestone, and I'm never going back.
I started with MFP at the end of December, when I was 288lbs, and had I think only maybe 2 or 3 weeks where I didn't lose anything or gained, but it always came right off the following week. I've been eating 2500-ish calories since I started, and I started to eat back exercise calories on top of that once I bought a Polar HRM. I only work out a few times a week (typically I aim for every-other-day) for around an hour because it's what I feel I can maintain the rest of my life. And so far, it's working.0 -
Bump, can't read it all now.0

I think a better question would be 'how many plateaus did you hit?'
I hit several, especially in the summer when I was camping and not doing so hot on the weekends.
Just kept working the program and eventually got thru it.0 -
I never hit one in the first 120. However, I am currently sitting on one that is irritating the H*!l out of me! But I keep working through it every day.0
-
No, i did not, my goal was to lose 200 pounds but ended up losing 246 pounds.
I never change my routine.
1. Drink lots of water
2. Keep my sodium levels 15-1800 a day
3. Never ate back my exercise burn
4. Did heavy cardio 6x a week
5. Incorporated ground flaxor Fennel seed in my diet
6. I ate whatever i wanted but in MODERATION If i wanted cookies i ate cookies 3 or 4( not the whole bag)
7.Every 2 weeks i change up my calorie intake, trick my body to thinking that every thing was normal. (zig -zag calories)
8. Everyday i told myself i can and I will succeed at this.
Here I am0 -
NEVER NEVER GIVE UP ON YOU !!!!!!!!0
-
I have hit a few. It is often because as I lose weight, my BMR decreases, and I need to adjust my target. Right now, my weight has been stable for a month, but my BF% and measurements are decreasing. I started couch to 5K a month ago and must be adding leg muscles!0
-
I haven't lost that much, but I have been in a lousy plateau since my last logged low which ironically was on my one year anniversary of my weight loss journey -- January 10. I have lost and gained the same 5lbs more times than I can count since Jan 10. Its VERY frustrating, even when I seem to have tried everything. I finally bought a HRM so I'm hoping that gives me the push I need to work harder to break it.0
-
I've dropped 133 in a little over 10 months. I hit a couple plateaus longest one lasting about a month. But mostly it's been pretty consistent. I go to the gym 7 days a week and just recently started hitting the weights hard. I am now only weighing once a month. Good luck. Keep your eye on the prize. Don't give up. Keep pushing through. My one month plateau was followed up by dropping 8 pounds in 2 weeks. So that made up for it.0
