I will be losing my walking partner and a good friend. Back in 2006 Sadie adopted me during a thunder storm as she was running down a busy road scared to near death. Since then she has always been waiting by the door for me every night, and has been my shadow. We started walking seriously a year ago, and she dropped from 75 lbs to 50 lbs, and has insisted that we go every night we can. Now she is sick, and this will be our last week end together. Just saying, I have been lucky that she showed up out of nowhere. Gotta love our pets, aye?

Sorry to hear this:( It truly does suck I've been there many times myself. But all the times up to that point have been worth it! And it's always a great feeling when they have chosen YOU!

You gave her six wonderful years. That's all that matters.

Losing a pet sucks. There's no way around that. But relieving them of pain and suffering is the most selfless thing we can do at the end.

Thanks Ladies. She's not suffering right now, but she is medicated. I will do the right thing.

Sorry to hear about Sadie. It is tough losing a pet like that. We had to put one of ours down a couple years ago and it was tough, but it was the right thing for us to do. At least you were good enough to adopt her and have six good years with her. Good for you for adopting her and then walking with her.

My wife and I already had two dogs, along with three young children, when we were finally able to catch and then adopt a stray Sheltie that had been running around all winter. Now " Fergus" is just one of the family.

I hope you can remember the good times you had with her.

Horrible time in a partnership. Only way I have found to cope is to realize that what they have given is more than worth the pain and it is an honor to be with them as they depart.

    My condolence.

I have a full length glass storm door. I guess she starts sitting by the door every day about an hour before I get home. I have always looked forward to my welcome home reception from here. Good dog.

    I'm so sorry :(

Pippin, was my german shepherd for 12 years. I had to put him down last fall- he had cancer (we did not know) and had a tumor erupt externally.

probably the hardest thing ive ever done, even though it was the kindest thing for me to do for him.

If you havent put her down yet, please stay in the room with them while she goes. Like i said it was the hardest thing I've ever done, but it was the very least I could do for a dog who spent his life protecting me and loving me.

    and... now im crying.... sigh....

    again, i am so sorry....

As we fell into our walking routine, she comes over every night, lays her head on the arm of my chair and wags her tail about 100 mph. I live in Oregon, and some nights it just rains too hard. Eventually she gives up and goes to bed, pouting. I will keep walking, without a doubt.

Although the pain is too much now, there are plenty of good dogs that need adopting. I never thought I could get another one that behaved and treated me as well as Odin but I was wrong. It took me almost 2 years but Holly is even better yet. They love us unconditionally. there might be another one for you sometiime.

I am so sorry to hear that she's not feeling well and you've got to do what's right for her even when its so hard on you. I just had to put my cat down a couple weeks ago. He was 20 years old and with me the whole time. This never easy but well worth them being in our lives. Your Sadie with always be with you. Hugs!:flowerforyou:

So sorry for you. We had to put down our beloved chow chow Simba in 2005. My biggest regret was not staying with him... it still makes me want to cry. I feel like I abandoned him, I'll never make that mistake again.

I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. We had to make that decision with our daschund, Milo, a year and a half ago. He had been a part of our family for almost 14 years and was truly the best dog and friend a person could ask for. It is the hardest decision to make but it the end you have to do what is best for them. I found a really cool metal dog statue that resembled him and I put in our back flower bed as a reminder of him.

Thoughts and prayers to you and Sadie. The love of my life furbaby Lucy (she was a goat) got tetanus and passed away in July 2010. I bought a memorial stone for her grave from peternity. Her grave is in the pasture so I am just gonna put her stone in a flower bed one day When we have our own house. Think of the great time you have had with her:heart:
