No, your membership on MFP does not automatically enter you into a popularity contest; however, some people use it more for the social aspect.

Some people like to keep their friends list small.

Some people like having hundreds of people on it.

Some people delete friends who haven't logged in for a while.

Some people delete friends who they don't feel a connection to.

Guess what? I deny friend requests from people who say I inspire them.
Does that make me mean?

NO!

It makes me human. I post encouraging and helpful things (sometimes) and share my progress and what works for me on the forums. My wall is for fun. My choice. I'm an adult.

So are you.

So don't get mad if someone doesn't want to add you.

Don't judge people that don't use MFP the same way you do.

Don't get upset if someone deletes you. Do you REALLY want a friend who keeps you out of a sense of obligation?
Personally, I'd feel awful if someone kept me just because they felt like they had to in order not to hurt my feelings.

    To get on my friends list you have to be pretty awesome...seriously .. Like jump through hoops or flames... Spit fire... Walk across hot coals... Lay on a bed of nails... Etc.

    I don't jump through hoops or flames, nor do I spit fire or walk across hot coals. I sometimes lie on my hands, though, and my fingers have nails.

    Also, I have a long tongue. This pretty much trumps all other criteria.
