I have an anxiety disorder and the meds I'm on help tremendously, but working out really takes the edge off.0

have had a good handle on my anxiety and panic attacks for close to a year now, but fealing good about yourself really helps, so if eating healthy and working out makes you feal good then get to it ;-) ( I used a program that really helped me understand my anxiety disorder) I still keep the tapes and books under my bed .... well worth the money in my experience

Never been diagnosed on that but occasionally get panic attack, mind going bonkers kind of feeling, I will go to my relaxation exercise, breathe deep and sit quietly, listen to the tape for a good 15 mins. Yoga and good breathing exercise helps to relax me in the morning as well, when I wake up with so much on my mind. Just 15 mins sun salutation.0

Exercise has DEFINITELY helped me. In the past 6 months, i've had the worst experiences with panic/anxiety attacks, and didn't want to rely on medication anymore so I started exercising. Amazing. All I can say. Not only do I feel better physically, I feel great mentally. Good luck!0

Absolutely...a nice walk and learn to stop and breath.....Eating healthy also helps me a bunch....:flowerforyou:0

Oh yea. I have horrible anxiety and panic attacks. and they are horrible. i don't wish them on any one. i really freak out when i have a panic attack. I actually just started having bad attacks in the past half a year, after a traumatic event i went through. i exercise about 5 days a week. and i think the exercise helps a little. but it still doesn't stop my panic attacks. i'm trying different medications to get it under control. exercise can help. but if they keep going on for you, definetly see your doctor and get some help. i know how terrifying and scary panic attacks are. hang in there.0

Exercise and eating healthier (a lot more veggies and a lot less sugary snacks) has significantly helped diminish my anxiety. I haven't been exercising as much the past couple of weeks and I can definitely feel my anxiety creeping back. Time for me to get moving again!0

I HAD terrible anxiety/panic attacks until I went to a cardiologist and he prescribed a beta blocker. I can't begin to tell you how much my life has improved! Working out on a daily basis has also helped immensely!0

I started getting anxiety and panic attacks about ten years ago.. When a lot is going on it can get over whelming.. I don't get them so bad now, I just stay home and don't go out much or socialize much.0

Yes honey! I have anxiety attacks. Exercise does help because you get out your frustrations, and you are doing something great for you! I am actually on anti depressants bc I could not get out of my funk for a long time (months). But I can also say even with the meds I am not HAPPY being obese! Love your self and go on a walk and do some sit ups. Sending hugs your way. I understand! :flowerforyou:0

I had wicked anxiety for a long time and it turned out I only needed a job, sort of like a german shephard. I just needed something to occupy my mind. I chose a very physical profession and my hobby is running, so exercise certainly plays a large part in how good I feel these days.0

Yes exercise has really helped me, I don't have to take any meds and that’s the best feeling in the world. I also had to let go of a lot of things in my life...I feel wonderful0

Occasionally.
Depends on what I'm freaking out about. If I can't find the source, a hard workout seems to back them off. If it's just the panic rat, I do some deep breathing/ visualizing. If I know the source of my anxiety, I can attack it with bubble baths and writing it out.
Mine have never been bad enough to require medication, but I'm sure if I didn't learn what they were and ways to control them as early on as I did, I'd be all sorts of doped up. :laugh:0 -
Used to suffer with anxiety quite a bit a few years ago, depression too. Finally talked to a counselor after trying for a long time to trudge through it on my own. Was on antidepressant for about 2 years. Anxiety got better, but I gained about 20 lbs. Was also on birth control pill to control pain of endometriosis. November of 2010 I stopped both medications cold turkey. Seemed like the birth control was contributing to the anxiety, so I felt like I was taking medication to ease effects of another medication. I also started running about that same time. I would say that my anxiety is much more under control now. I still worry and freak out sometimes, but I am able to talk myself down a LOT better than before. Diet and exercise are GREAT ways to alleviate stress and improve personal moral.
Good luck with your journey!0 -
I think having an exercise program and exerting control over my diet has helped me curb my anxiety. For me, so much of the anxiety I feel stems from feeling out of control. When I mirror that in my eating and fail to exercise, I tend to be more anxious all around. But following a healthy lifestyle and experiencing the actual changes that are coming from good choices confirm that I do have control, I can handle what life throws at me, and I am less prone to anxiety.0

I have severe social anxiety and panic attacks. I'm on a medication called Klonopin. It makes the problem better, but it doesn't resolve it. As I type this, I'm feeling panicky as hell. Meditation, prayer/chanting, reading helps. Also, Valerian root can be a big help. You can get it at your local Walgreens.0

I have anxiety and panic attacks, I also suffer from sugar lows brought on by my panic attacks. I tend to get super anxious then eventually it comes to a head and I have a panic attack immediately followed by a sugar drop leading to a sugary junk binge..yep its fun lol. I find eating healthy and keeping it spaced nicely helps keep my body on track, and taking the time to sit and breathe and eat helps my anxiety. Exercise is great too when I can I love to just get the anxiety out on the treadmill or go for a walk it helps sooo much ( I am not medicated btw, was once but stopped to have another baby and I felt the meds hurt more than helped).0

I haven't had a panic attack since I've started exercising and losing weight. I used to have to be on medications for anxiety to sleep and now I am no longer on them. (I also got off anti-depressants which was tough). I started out slowly and increased the level of intensity of my workouts. I thought exercising harder would give me a panic attack eventually but it didn't! I am so happy that I can live normally again without bring xanax everywhere.
I also got some counseling which helped along the way. Once you find out what you can do on your own and how far you can go, it's like a whole different world.0 -
I actually have serve social anxiety and use to suffer from agoraphobia but i would have to say it helps me out a lot!!!0
-
i haven't had a panic attack in a long time, but i have OCD and, if nothing else, when i'm working out my brain doesn't seem to get stuck in the little obsessive-y ruts than can lead me into full-blown anxiety... it's half-an-hour or however-long that i'm free from it, it seems.0
-
Exercise helps me more than anything. In fact, it's the reason I do it. Other things have helped: vitamin D, B, fish oil and getting off hormonal birth control0
-
Sometimes I have panic attacks mid-exercise and that's terrible, but generally I'd say it helps. I really like swimming for exercise with my anxiety, since most of my irrational fear is based around my heart health - I don't notice my heart rate as much in the water.0
-
exercise can trigger mine sometimes. i always have to prepare myself for the point where my lizard brain starts to associate the increased heart rate/sweat/other physical cues of exertion with an anxiety attack. however, exercise has helped worlds with overall depression symptoms, so if it starts happening, i time out, reassure myself that it's not a real anxiety attack, and get moving again. it's worth the extra effort, for sure.0
