Any Big (300+) Girls Tried COUCH to 5K?

I think the subject says it all. I'm thinking of starting, but it seems like I'd need to modify the program for my extra mass. I'm just starting to jog and the thought of jogging a 5K thrills me. Any big ladies tried this and succeeded? I'm about 315 but pretty athletic despite this. Am I crazy to even try?

I ran a half marathon yesterday and for a while the 5k folks were running with the half mary folks until the split at mile 2. I passed a woman who had to be 300 lbs. She looked great! I was so impressed that she was out there in a race. So I say go for it.0

My knees hurt the first time I started jogging, but then I did some reading. You have to watch your form! Make sure your feet are coming out straight in front of you, not tilted or crooked. Lower your feet in a controlled manner, don't just "fall" on them with gravity.
I think a decent test of this is if you can jog at 4.5 mph on a treadmill without bouncing off the side rails. Then you are running straight. Form is everything to avoid causing problems. I started jogging at about 305 pounds with no knee pain.
Also, wear a great sports bra. This is VERY important.0 -

I did complete the C25K but I wasn't 300 pounds. However this blog still inspired me and I think it will inspire you to! It is a blog about a man and his wife, both heavier people, who did more than just the C25K. I do not know if he posts anymore but it is a wealth of information. Good Luck!

Disclaimer: I am not 300+, but when I was 200+, I found I needed to "double bag" my butt in two pairs of compression shorts, because my butt hurt soooo much from all that jiggling! Just a helpful tip in case the jiggling prevents your jogging enjoyment. :flowerforyou:
If you've never been a runner, I'd also suggest having someone look at your form and give you tips to help prevent injury. You should also think about investing in a good-fitting pair of running shoes, and replacing them more often than you might think is necessary to help take care of your feet and prevent injury.
Have fun! Let us know how it goes!0 -
I started yesterday. So far so good. But I wasn't a couch potato. Been working on my fitness for a couple of months now.0

I was very close to 300 when I started (298), and I had to do week 1 twice, but I was fine. It's OK to repeat weeks if needed...0
