I've got a question for y'all. So, you're hosting a get together at your place, guests age ranges from mid 20s - mid 40s. Do you supply the whole party with alcohol or do you supply some and assume they'll bring some as well?

I would let them know what your going to supply and then also say they can bring their own. I would have like wine, beer etc.0
-
I would BYOB them hahah. I would just have a few cases and tell them to bring whatever they like. **** even alcohol is getting expensive nowadays!!0
-
We usually say BYOB and then have some extra or make a huge supply of a certain mixed drink.0
-
I supply some and they bring the rest. I supply all mixers, food, and snacks0
-
supply some and tell them to bring extra. I would supply all mixers0

I always think the general rule of thumb when it comes to casual get togethers is that everyone brings there own alcohol. Food is generally provided by the host though.0
-
I would supply some but they should take it upon themselves to bring some as well. Now the strippers.. You should supply those.0
-
Thanks guys. Guess we'll supply wine and such with mixers and food, and get them to bring their own hard stuff.0
-
I think that people should assume they should bring something with them but its always good to have a case of beer and a bottle of vodka handy just incase.0

I guess I'm not good enough, you want professionals?! I supply the blow though0 -

Oh the good old days. I remember those. Keg stands.. I had the record in my town for 56 seconds. My younger brother beat me the following year for a 59 seconds. Lil *kitten*.0 -
I'm a big drinker and love to mix drinks so I'd be supplying everything...except my really good stuff, which I'm saving for the zombie apocalypse.0

I always supply all the liquor, but more often than not guests give gifts of wine or hard liquor and that may or may not be added to the supply. If it's really top shelf, it gets hidden away just for me.0
-
We supply wine and two kinds of beer in addition to food, appetizers and mixers. If they want liquor they bring their own.0
-
It's pretty common practice to supply some, maybe a case of beer, 2 bottles red and 2 bottles white. But don't assume they'll bring their own, tell them what you'll have on hand and that if they want to BYOB they should.0
-
Depends for us. If it's the usual Friday/Saturday get together everyone brings their own, but when we throw special parties.. (Halloween, Summer get together, etc) We always have a few bottles of wine and hard stuff, jager and sour puss for people to do shots/mix drinks etc.0

A friend of mine usually hosts all the parties - she has the house for it. I buy a couple of bottles of "two buck chuck" (Charles Shaw from Trader Joe's, $2.99 a bottle) and bring them to every party, plus a bottle of something nicer for her (which is not opened at the party unless she wants to - quite often those bottles end up in her cellar).
But all of my friends bring either a bottle or six-pack for sharing or some food. She usually ends up with more alcohol in the house after the party is over than before. She just puts the unopened bottles in the cellar and brings them out for the next party (and occasionally she notes "DO NOT BRING WINE" so we can work on cleaning out the cellar a bit - LOL).
Good friends bring a bottle of their own to share. Sometimes a simple BYOB is enough to encourage that. The host(ess) should not be responsible for buying everything - that gets expensive.0 -
Well us true hardcore partiers bring our own....and we share!0
-
In our group of friends, we pretty much all bring something. It depends on the type of party, too. I did a Cinco de Mayo party where everyone brought a dish to share. I supplied the margaritas, some beers, and two types of food. Everyone else brought a dish to share and/or some booze... Now, the Halloween costume party was totally just BYOB because it was a huge party and people were going in and out all night long. I wouldn't wanna supply for that.
I usually just tell people what I'll have, and if they want something specific, they are welcome to bring it along.0 -
With my firends it's usually Bring your own. Even more so for me personally, all forms of alcohol I've had I think tastes like *kitten* and I generally just hate the effects of it so I refuse to buy any of it.0
-
I would usually provide the stuff for one or two mixed drinks (cosmos, pina colada, margarita, etc. ) and tell them if they want to bring a cooler for themselves or to share...
Many people end up bringing a large cooler full of something to share with everyone, whether it's beer or wine coolers. Only once it a while will someone NOT bring something, but they'll know better the next time. :drinker: :drinker:0 -
You just tell them BYOB, and they will. You will just need a 12 pack of beer and a couple bottles of wine to start and the rest will just happen.0

I concur with supplying some. I usually say we will provide X, please feel free to bring the drink of your choice. At my old house we had a fully stocked bar in our basement, most of the time we ended up ahead bc people would bring a case or bottle of whatever and just leave it.0
-
I never mind bringing additional alcohol to a get-together--a polite guest never shows up empty-handed--but I probably wouldn't go to one if I knew that all of the drinks were provided by the guests.

Id make a big thing of sangria and get a case of beer and let everyone know if there is something they would like to drink that night, to please feel free to bring it, but you'll have something there to wet their whistle.
Also, its true, you can count o all the 30-40's to bring something and share it! You get awesome like that the older you get. Better at partying.0 -
I would get in a case or two of beer and do a cheap cocktail bowl (sex on beach something easy) and tell them that and to bring whatever else drink wise they want0
