Moving the Big Block

I wanted to share a motivation technique that I used when I was starting out years ago when I was at my highest weight of 340. Every morning I would get up and look in the mirror and say I am working at moving the big block. It is a big block and I know it is not easy to move but every day with hard work and dedication I can move the block just a little. Little by litte each day I would make progress until one day the BIG Block moves and then I challange myself to move the big block AGAIN.

What is the Big Block you may ask? Well anyone here that has stepped on a doctor scale knows that there is a little block and a big block. The Big Block starts at 0 and goes up by 50 so it is 0, 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300 and the little block above (slider) goes from 0 to 50.

Over the last few years I have moved the BIG BLOCK twice and my goal is to move it ONE MORE time. So every day I tell my self I did it before and I can do it again lets get that big block moved for the LAST time.

Thanks for reading...

  • That's great advice! Yes, I moved two BIG BLOCKS in the last few years, and now that I have gained some weight back, I am back at losing it again!

For me, I always used 10 lb increments rather than the big numbers, because it seemed "easier" for my mind to consider having to "just lose 10 lbs" than it did to think about having to lose 100 lbs.....and it worked! I keep striving to next weight ending in a "9"...lol...

Another thing I started doing here on MFP for meals I already knew what I was having, was to put them into the Food Journal, so I could see how many calories I was consuming...like last night...instead of having two cups of pasta (which is bad) which I projected I would eat, I actually felt full after eating 1.25 cups so I didn't eat the rest and removed the calories from my journal! It definitely makes you THINK about everything you eat!!!

Thanks for sharing your tip...I love hearing other people's ideas and can't wait to read more!!!
