I can't exercise on a full tummy, so I always work out before I eat anything...for me, work out, and then eat breakfast

Walk first, it increases your metabolism and helps to burn more of the calories that you eat

I've heard that walking within an hour after eating helps with digestion. Not sure though. I'd be curious to hear as well.

I always eat first if it is just a walk, I feel that it helsp wih my digestion.

if I were going to exercise more vigorously, I would probably do it before, or at least wait a while after.

    hope that helps

I eat dinner before I workout. I feel I need the energy to go through my workout. If I workout in the morning, I need at least a protein bar first. But that's just me. If you can push through without food in your belly, by all means go for it.

Either or...because you said walk...It's up to you..

but if you said run...I would say don't eat dinner "RIGHT" before.

I prefer to exercise before eating though...

depends on how long ago your snack was. if it's been a couple of hours, i would fuel up with dinner first, then walk. i prefer to eat, wait 1/2 hour- 45 min, then exercise.

I really don't think it matters. I would eat my lunch and then walk. I think the important thing is to just exercise and burn those calories. I walk the dog and then have supper. It's the exercise that is important along with a sensible eating plan.

I do both, sometimes I get started while something is in the oven, then take a break to eat and finish off my treadmill work after dinner. I actually prefer to do my treadmill work after dinner. I never get cramps or feel lethargic when I do this.

It doesn't really matter, but I can't workout with anything in my tummy. I get a little too queasy otherwise.

I like to eat an early dinner (between 3PM and 5PM), and go work out at about 7:00 in the evening. This works well for me.

My understanding is that after you eat you body should be concentrating on digesting not having to split itself between that and exercise - so walking off a meal is not what you're supposed to do. In other words exercise then eat - though not right away.

If it's a walk, and not a run, I'd do dinner and the walk. That way you can burn off any sugar spikes you may have picked up from dinner.

    This.

Personally I exercise later in the evening (after 7:30) and don't want to eat afterwards, so I eat around 5:30 and give myself time to digest before I exercise. Puking on the treadmill is not recommended.

I do it both ways, depending on my mood. Exercise when you'll do it...bottom line.

Either. I eat dinner first and then do exercise last. It helps me sleep better. It sometimes means I need another light recovery snack if I do a strenuous workout. But I have my go-to's -- protein shake or peanut butter or kefir.

IMHO: Don't exercise hungry, but don't eat a big meal right before. If you are hungry before you want to start your walk, eat a light snack and drink some water.
I don't like to eat big meals before I exercise because if I do, I get nauseous. I also don't like to exercise hungry because then I am distracted while I am exercising.

PS: The answer to this question really is whatever works best for you, there is no right or wrong answer and there is no real impact on your metabolism (per licenced nutritionist)

I tend to exercise before I eat dinner just because I can't move after I eat and it makes me sick if I exercise after.

The Mayo Clinic weighs in on this topic at http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/exercise/HQ00594_D

The bottom line at the end of the article says everyone is different and you should pay attention to your body.

Exercise may boost your metabolism, but you will still burn calories regardless of when you eat. Calories in vs. calories out. That's it.

I say do what works best for your schedule and how you feel.

Um, I don't know if I would say walking has a big impact on your metabolism afterwards.
Now weight training, that's another story. Your metabolic rate does increase with weight training and therefore eating after that would help burn more of the calories.

if i was going to walk at like 7pm, i'd eat first.. but if i was exercising at like 7pm, i'd eat dinner at like 530 or so or before if possible. i prefer to work out on an empty stomach but walking isn't that big a deal, imo.
