So I started my dieting about 2 weeks ago and I've been doing fab - I started during term time (teacher) so I could just get used to dieting at work - then I had a week off which is where I feel best at dieting because I'm more in control. But 1st day back and I'm absolutely shattered - I know its because I'm not used to it just yet but its 9pm and I still haven't done my workout yet. I needed a nap earlier which is something I'm trying to avoid doing but I was falling asleep!
Someone kick me into gear pleeeeeeease!

First things first, I would up your protein considerably if you are in fact working out regularly.
I will also say that 1200 calories is too little to be eating. I ate 1200 calories myself for over a year and found out recently that 1200 calories is starvation. I lost muscle mass and not much body fat %. Even though I've lost 40lbs.
How much iron do you get? Because low iron can make you feel tired all the time.
Do you drink lots of water?
I found that not drinking enough water made me feel drained. Now I make sure to drink at least 2L per day.0 -
Hi. As a precaution please have doctor check for anemia. I started fitnesspal and lost 20 pounds in about 6 weeks. I had to go to doctor for an unrelated incident and through that blood work found out I was anemic. So that's why i was tired all the time!!! Naps were my best friend. An iron pill a day keeps the sleepies away. Other than that - hang in there and do the best you can!0

I'm not a professional, but maybe you need to increase your calorie intake?Or maybe get your thyroid checked? Is it just since you started counting calories that you feel tired?0
-
Could you have low iron? I find eating oatmeal (really high in iron) most mornings of the work week really help when I'm feeling more tired than usual. Just a thought!.0
-
Probably because you are eating too few calories. You can't drive a car (or use your body) without fuel. Period.0
-
First of all, may I just say you are very pretty?
Motivation is what gets us started, habit is what keeps us going. It takes 21 days to form a habit- so just do your exercise. it'll get easier as time goes on to continue doing the right thing.0 -
I was the same way. I was always so tired when I got home from work that I never really felt like working out.
I solved that problem by forcing myself to get up an hour earlier. I have had so much more energy and I haven't had any 2:30 feelings. I also have been able to stay up just as late as before since I have more energy. Since getting up before work to get my workout in a week ago, today is the first day I've been tired and it's because I napped off a migraine yesterday and then slept horrible last night.
My theory when I gave it a shot was "I'll try getting my workout in before work for just one week. If I don't like it, I'll go back to working out at night." I'm going to continue getting up early to do it.0 -
yes, you could have low iron, or b12.
i was really tired all of the time.
i had low b12.
my boyfriend was really tired all of the time.
low iron.
when you're eating healthier, sometimes we lack a lot.
take some vitamins.0 -
You could have hook worm. I knew this guy who had it and was conically tired. Do you ever go outside without shoes on?0
-
There are literally hundreds of reasons why you may be tired. I would go to the doctor for a physical and bloodwork to ensure that there is not an underlying issue.0
-
Ok, the serious reason. you just need to eat those ~300 calories a day your not eating back.0
-
I feel like taking a nap now....0

I agree with some of the other posts in that you should make sure you aren't anemic or have a deficiency in iron etc before anything else! I will also say that I recently upped my calorie allowance because my weight loss had slowed to a crawl and I was starting to feel tired as well. My Fitness Pal dropped me about every 10 pounds of weight lost and when I got to 1440 calories a day I upped it back to 1550. I do P90X 6 days a week and usually eat about 1600-1700 calories on those days but on my rest day, 1440 just wasn't enough. Use the tools: BMR calculator on this website to see what you need to be alive and don't eat less than that if you're working out.0

I looked at your diary and your protein intake is very low! MFP setting are very low to begin with and you're not even coming close! Are you a vegan? I would do some research or find some forums for vegans to help with hitting your protein goal. Also your overall calorie intake is low. Barely 1200 if that on most days. No wonder why you are tired!!!! You are not getting enough calories and nutrients! 'Dieting' does not have to mean torture! Fuel your body and make this a sustainable lifestyle change!!!0

I have a feeling that it's a mixture of not eating enough and not getting enough protein.
First, check your activity level - not sure what it's set at now but I'm sure as a teacher, you're on your feet at least part of the day so you should be set higher than sedentary (light active I thihk is the next level).
Second, with less to lose, your goal should be no higher than 1 pound per week (1/2 pound is ideal).
That pretty much takes care of where your calorie goal should be at based on normal daily activity and a healthy goal. You can also base your calorie goal on your BMR. Your net calories should be close to your BMR but defintiely no lower than 1200 as that is the minimum for proper nutrition.
Third, carbs tend to be burned up a lot faster than proteins and fats so the more protein and healthy fat (nuts, seeds, avocado) you eat, the more likely you'll keep your energy up.
And if eating right/enough doesn't work, I'd suggest going to see a doctor to see if something's up.0 -

^^^ This is always good advice as well0 -
Not that I disagree with any of the above BUT I get plenty of Iron, eat 3300 a day, am in bed early & am constantly tired! I am not over training, I adore my rest days & usually don't work out on my work days It might be low level depression, stress or other non food related issues, as I stated I am not disagreeing with any of the other comments but some intrespection may be all you need

Up your protein for sure. Are you exercising? Exercising gives you extra energy too.
Upping my protein and lowering my carbs made me lose 10lbs without trying. Now I get around 100 grams a day for both.
Look at my food diary- do you eat as much as me?
See your doctor first like everyone else suggested.
Good luck- you're in the prime of your life, enjoy it!0 -
i find when i am feeling tired, and need a nap, i force myself to get up and workout....even if for only 20 minutes. and yes, there are times i thought i would fall asleep doing it, but when i was done....i felt better, and was proud that i pushed myself, when i didn't want to! keep trying, dont give up, or be to hard on yourself, as it is really hard what you are trying to do! keep it up!0

It could be a few things
Although, fat and sugar in food has probably put a lot of people on this website, you still need it for energy and for a little boost, even if its just a bit (especially sugar)
It could also be an iron deficiency, I'm anaemic, which means that I get really tired and weak easily, but thats because I'm a pescatarian (Vegetarian) and lacking in iron, so try to eat red meat and if your a vegetarian the try and eat green things like spinach, broccoli and chocolate actually contains iron in it but check with your doctor, all they do it take a little blood and you find out a week later
Also try to eat a lot of vitamin C, because I normally become ill when I start a diet, but this time as when i started a tried to eat one orange a day
hope this helped xx0 -
I gave myself 1200kcals because EVERY diet website, book, calculation worked it out as this - some lower! I did my work out and it has actually woken me up a lot! I love protein over carbs any day and I am no longer a vegan (was when I joined MFP) I make sure I have protein everyday - I have it in every meal, at least my big ones anyway.
Not sure about the paracites - although that did scare me a little - my cat and rabbit are both wormed and I don't tend to toilet anywhere but the toilet haha0 -
First of all, may I just say you are very pretty?
Thank you0 -
Your protein is way too low! I looked at it for the last 3 days. You should get closer to 100 grams a day, it will make a difference.0
-
I would agree with the posters who said to up your protein intake. I also find when I drink enough water, my energy levels remain high as well.0
-
Are you still a vegetarian? Maybe get your b12 checked if you were vegan very long, also vitamin D (most of us seem to be low in it), check for anemia. Just get an entire workout. Just the stress of starting a new diet cause make you feel more tired too. I drink protein drinks to get all my protein in (my nutritionist recommended that I get around 50-60). Not everyone's protein needs are the same and if you have access to a nutrition via work's health insurance plan or your Dr or just pay for one for one visit, it could help you greatly.
Hope your exhaustion improves and you can continue with losing weight!0 -
I've been on a diet for 9 days now lost 6 lbs by sticking to 1200 calories a day but also feeling tired0

deactivated their account... odd.0
-
Not so odd when you look at when it was posted.
Boopnic, 1200 calories is probably not enough for you.0 -
Start having some trail mix or pistacios. Natural energy in nuts. But I'd definitly up the protein.0
