i think the best answer is to fake it til you make it.

things always get easier when you're used to doing them. just keep at it!

Focus on how solid your legs will become! I squat regularly and I sometimes feel like my legs are made out of granite:-) I'd rather them be solid as opposed to flabby everyday of the week.
  • I hate them to but I found when I do them regularly I notice a difference in my body shape. I began doing them when I watch tv. I will do squats the lunges every other commercial. Commercial time frames are normally 2 minutes and before you know it you have done 75 in an hours time.

    Good luck!

How much weight have you added to your squats? I know my wife got a little discouraged about a month in when she went up to 100lbs the first time... But did a deload to help form a bit... Up to 120 and loves it now.

Keep doing them, add heavier weights build some more muscle and then look at how awesome your legs start to look. Then you can have a love/hate relationship with them. :)

    This!

I hated squatting at first, and I still hate lunges, but I love the way my legs are starting to look. Once I get more fat off, they'll look amazing.

I freaking LOVE squats and lunges! I get wicked excited when it's squat day. :blushing: I love nothing more than piling the weights on the smith machine and banging out a bunch of reps. I love the sore feeling that I get the next day.

Oh, squats are my favorite...for they are awesome for so much. With heavy squats, I no longer have to do any crunches to have the best abs I've ever had! Love what they do for my rear even more. Focus on what they do for you!

You have to remind yourself of ALL the benefits:

    - Anabolic - You get greater overall muscle and strength gains from the squat than from any other exercise... Almost an entire body workout....stronger abs
    - Helps w/ Mobility as we age...
    - Helps with sports performance...and increases sprint/running time
    - Tones/Tightens
    - Improves balance
    - Prevents Injuries
    - Gain flexibility

I hate them and always feel like i'm doing them wrong.

Proper form is really important because you could hurt your back and knees and not get the results you want -- all of which makes you hate squats more. I'm sure you heard this but for squats, stick your butt back like you're sitting in a chair. Then, what really works for me is to make sure all of my body weight is in my heels. You should be able to lift up your toes a teeny tiny bit. If you can, your form is probably correct. If not, adjust. As far as lunges, it takes some practice to feel balanced, and you may want to work with very light or no weights until you feel comfortable in your form. Be sure your leg is back far enough and that your forward thigh is parallel to the ground and your front knee should never come in front of your ankle. Practice in a mirror before taking on weights.

Hang in there. It's so worth it. My butt fell somewhere in my 40s and now, at 49, it's rising again -- never thought that would happen!

I love squats. One of the best functional exercises you'll ever do and one of the best ways to build functional strength. Lunges, not so much. I don't do them (except for suspension trainer variations) because I fall over while doing them.

Before, I did squats and lunges without weights, still got really good results. Once I added in the weights and the exercises got harder, I hated it. But then I saw I got even better results, and realized that I just have to power through.

I'm with you. I puffy heart love them. I HATED lunges when I started this journey, but I actually do them as a warm up to my lifting routine now.

    Love squats, hate lunges. :)

Love my perky butt though! I never had one all my life until I started working out and doing them. :D It's awesome filling out jeans and shorts and having a cute little bum to show off in my bikini. lol
