How much will I lose from exercising?

I am trying to custom change my "Goals" page. When I lower my calories consumed, it tells me I will lose more. However, no matter how much exercise I add in, the amount of pounds I will lose does not change. How do I figure this out? Thank you!

I'm not exactly sure what you mean about the amount of lbs you will lose not changing. But how much weight you lose from exercise depends on many factors, most importantly what exercise you do and how intensely coupled with what and how much you eat.

The number of pounds you can lose per week (on MFP) will max out. This is because MFP ALWAYS expects a minimum SAFE calorie allowance. Calories in (food) VS. calories out (exercise) = Net Calories.

MFP will not allow your net calories to go below 1200 (for women) because that is safe weight loss. Your body needs this minimum number of calories to function properly (heart, lungs, kidneys).

It doesn't credit you for your exercise unitl you actually DO it. On the set-up page, you put in how huch you plan to work and that is all - it has no bearing on anything else. You have to go to the exercise tab and put in what you did and how many calories you burned before you see "results" from exercise. MFP just tracks calorie intake, and you can use it as a tool to set up a deficit for weight loss. Whether that deficit is from exercise or calorie restriction is up to you.

Not only does MFP not credit your for exercise until it's actually logged, it then adds the exercise calories back into your daily allowance. So workout to the tune of 450 calories burned then you get 450 calories additional to eat, and your weekly loss will still be at 1 or 2 pounds or whatever you set it for.

Its all diet. Its all about maintaining a calorie deficit. This can be done through eating less or exercising more. Whatever you choose is entirely up to you.

Exercise doesn't really make weight loss happen. Its 90% diet and a small portion is attributed to exercise.

I believe the basic guideline is for every 500 calorie deficit per day, you will lose 1 pound per week. Whether that deficit comes from exercise or reduced calorie intake is up to you.

You need to burn about 3,500 calories to lose a pound. So if you were to burn 500 calories a day for 7 days by exercising, that should work out to a pound a week.

MFP estimates the amount you will lose by how many calories you plan to consume. Exercise will be factored in at the time you actually perform it. In terms of the "goals" worksheet you're looking at, it's just for you to challenge yourself. It's not part of the numeric weight loss equation.
