Eating During High Heat

Does anyone else have problems eating when the temperature is hot? When I am working outdoors, and the temperature is high, my desire to eat is non-existent. Does anyone have any ideas to try and keep some form of appetite while working in the heat.

Thanks

I know how you feel. I live in Florida, and I drive long distances in a vehicle with no a/c in it and I get nauseous for a long while after that and dont want to eat. I usually try to drink lots of water while Im cooling off and snack on some cold fruit until I get my appetite back. I keep frozen grapes in the freezer all the time for stuff like that.

I am the same way in South TX. It gets super hot and super high humidity, which makes it 100 times worse. I just stay hydrated, try to eat lots of fruits and salads. I have a hard time eating dinner in the summer months.

I work in the heat everyday so I try to do small meals or snacks throughout the day. It seems to help me without feeling like I have to make myself eat a whole meal. I also try to just eat chilled food, like fruit and veggies from the fridge. I have a hard time with it sometimes also, I feel like I eat the same things all the time and it gets pretty boring.

Try some meals like the ones in this blog post: http://goodcheapeats.com/2012/06/eat-real-food-10-easy-no-cook-suppers/

Maybe just snack healthy all day instead of large meals. Hope this helps!

Definitely. My A/C broke and it's been about 84°F inside. I find that my hunger diminishes a lot. If not, I tend to just want to eat something light like a salad, a tomato sandwich, or gazpacho.

Maybe rely on lots of smaller meals or snacks spread out through your day? We're supposed to hit 110 on Sunday, so we'll be in the same boat!

    Chilled fruit
    Frozen fruit bar

I have this problem, too. Also, after workouts I am rarely ever hungry. I make smoothies and add extra ice so they stay cold longer and just sip them over an hour period. I throw in a banana, some other type of fruit(whatever's available), a yogurt, low sodium V8, baby spinach, cucumbers and/or celery and ice. If I'm replacing a meal with it, I'll add protein powder, too. Tastes great! Gets the important nutrients in!

Try a fruit smoothie...refreshing and easy. But you won't feel like you're having a meal, even though you can make a meal out of a smoothie, depending on what you put into it.
