    Good morning!

Just coming on to tell you that after seeing the scale this morning, I have decided to change my New Year's goal! It was 230. Now it's 225! I think 230 may just be too easy for me since as of this morning I'm only 14 pounds away. 225 is something attainable that I can really push hard for.

morning team! Yay jib, cool that you are doing so well on the new years challenge!! I hope to join you when I get this weird weight fluctuation thing under control! Lulu, thanks for the info. Any special herb tea? Or just anything herbal? Thanks! I am thinking if I am doing everything right this week and it still isn't heading in the right direction, I am gonna see the doc. I was just there about a month ago, and got good news in everything like blood pressure, heart health, blood sugar, etc. So, we'll see.

:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: Welcome new folks. :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

Since we are doing introductions, I'm Kristi - age 50, single, live in Salt Lake City, Utah, social work is my occupation and my passion -- drug and alcohol and trauma recovery therapy. I've been doing MFP since the middle of February this year. I've lost about 100 pounds during that time and a total of 130ish pounds from my heaviest weight. Still have almost 200 pounds to lose. This website has been the best thing I have ever done in terms of weight loss. Good luck to everyone!

Lulu, I like your thought for the day, too. I have been doing some study lately on the interaction between different foods as well as the way foods interact with us in terms of whats going on at the biochemical level. For example, something like a yeast infection can trigger cravings for comfort foods like white bread, pasta and such. And, if we aren't metabolizing nutritients from the food we eat, we may still feel hungry, even though we are really full. Like the feeling when you've just eaten and you feel really full, yet you find yourself standing in front of the fridge looking for you don't know what??? But SOMETHING!! Yeah. :blushing: Anyway, its pretty interesting stuff. Ok, enough rambling. Gotta exercise. Love you guys!

    Hello Team!

Glad to see some new faces here! My name is Cyndi and Im a 36 y/o SAHM of 3 teens (17, 16 & 13) and 7 kitties (5 of which are fosters). Ive been with the group since last January and lost 40lbs in the first 7 months and have managed to maintain the weightloss. My goal is to get down to 200lbs for now and see how I feel once I get there to see if I want to lose more. I live about 5 minutes from Adopt4. My hubby and I have been married for 7 1/2 years. He works as a Systems Engineer (aka computer geek) and recently got a job that requires him to travel about 80% of the time.

Sorry i have been MIA for a couple weeks. Hubby was home for a bit and is now gone again for 2 weeks to Texas, then to Maryland. I was bad when he was home. He missed my cooking so he bugged me to make him treats like pumpkin pie of which we both ate WAY too much! (what can I say.. my pie rocks! lol) I can honestly say tho that I havent had much fast food at all. We got pizza a couple times and even when we did I didnt bust my calories. Ive been too busy playing catchup with bills to afford anything else and I just havent been in the mood for it anyway.

Halloween... what can I say... I didnt buy ANY halloween candy until halloween day. We normally run out but this year we didnt have as many trick-or-treaters so I still had 1/3 of the candy i bought left over. I got stuff my older kids like so if there was some left over, they would eat it fast and it would be lingering around for me to snitch on.. LOL! Im still a chocoholic, but I do have my limits! I ate enough mini snickers yesterday to last me a good month....

So, my Horoscope this morning was great....The time for rest is over and now you must get back on track. You've been distracted and focus has been regained. Time to stand up for yourself and what you believe in. A workaholic. You haven't listened to what your higher self has tried to tell you. Time to stop goofing off and get serious. You need to build a team to reach your goals. HAHA!! :embarassed:
OK.. so its SO TRUE!! and I am NOW getting off the dang computer and hauling my butt to the gym for a workout this morning...

Day 1 of C25K all over again :drinker:

afternoon ya'll. i just spent hours with our bills, etc trying to get out of the monthly "hole" we are in (including payday loans to get by) and figured out what we need to do to stop having the payday loans or overdraft... it should only take us about 2 1/2 mos! Whoo hoo! Then we can start working on getting out of debt completely, paying off medical bills that are sitting, paying off the van early (truck will be paid off on the 15th, making a double payment!), etc. I really thought it would take much longer than that. We can truly have all our bills paid off (adoption loans, student loan, EVERYTHING since we don't have a mortgage) within about 12 mos. Wow. So I'm pretty excited, because at that point we will be in good standing to buy the house we are living in, which we really want to do. Although I may have to get a job part-time (trying to do that now) to make things move faster and to get more down money that the $15000 we already put down on our option. So I'm pretty excited to see light at the end of the tunnel - and the girl! Once we've paid off the boys' adoption loans and readoption fees (for citizenship) then we can save a chunk and I can go get my little girl! So that's even more exciting! The last adoption moved so fast - we were told 12-18 mos, it literally took 3 mos from start to finish - so we had to take out some loans to cover some of the stuff. So next time we want cash in hand and be prepared so we have no loans. I'm pretty psyched. I'm listening to an online audio book by Dave Ramsey - Total Money Makeover. We could do it much faster if we sacrificed a lot of things - by this I mean shutting off our cable, but since we rarely go out (maybe every 6 mos or so?), we don't go to movies, we don't do much of anything, that's our only relaxation and entertainment. I could save us $100 a mo by dropping it down... so we're considering that. But no tv??? Hmmm... Not sure we'd survive, LOL. Have to see if ALL our programs are available online for free first...

A lot of what I"m learning about finances also apply to healthy living. One thing he says with money that I can really see applying to weight loss is make 1 goal, and meet it before moving on to something else. So for money if you pay a little for this bill, a little for that one, etc you don't feel like you're getting anywhere and can get discouraged and quit. So pay off one bill completely (start with the smallest) and work your way up. That way you feel like you've accomplished something. I can see that applying to weight loss as well, if you change everything all at once and you struggle, then you feel like you've not done anything. Pick one thing and meet that goal, for example, drinking all your water. Then once you've got that down, cut out certain junk foods. Once you've done that, exercising 3x/wk. Once you've got that down, cutting down your calories. and so on. I know that since I've struggled the last few months that I have had a really hard time getting back on track - but in the beginning, I only changed one thing at once, so I need to do that now again in starting over. Ya know?

We have some Halloween candy left over, went thru the kids' stuff and pulled out all the snickers (too hard for them to eat) so junked out on that but once they're gone, the kids' candy doesn't tempt me. I still have a few baby snickers in the freezer. and baby snickers are not bad, anyway, cuz they're so small.

I'm not worried about Thanksgiving as far as weight is concerned because it's just that "one" meal in our family. Sure we'll have turkey leftovers, but I'm not keeping any dessert leftovers, people will have to take that home with them. Christmas is harder, though, it's a season. As long as we're not invited to any parties (usually aren't, LOL) then it will be just that one meal then too, same rules, no desserts left over. That's IF we have people over, if it's just us, then I'll make a batch of cookies and that's it, no pies. (mmm... pie....)

Kristi i'm interested in what you said about some foods you eat and you're hungry right away. I have that problem. What's the book or what's the general foods, or what's the foods you mix so you don't have that?

lulu LOVE what you said about how you CHOSE not to go naked each day... never thought of it that way.

Well, I had a pretty LONG day. Started out at 6:00 this morning when the moon woke me up peeking through the curtains of my room. This.. combined with the kittens playing nascar racer across the foot of the bed (guess the full moon was getting to them too) was enough to make me crawl out of there by 6:30.

So.. I got up, motivated my kids off to school then played on facebook for a couple hours or so. Went to the gym and got some walking and elliptical in. Cough my brains out on the way home (still getting over that part of the plague from several weeks ago) but managed to keep some in.

Got home, showered... MIL called and said I HAD to come see her for lunch today... EEK!... good thing I went to the gym..her german cooking is enough to make you gain 5lbs just looking at it.. but its really tasty and I didnt let her overstuff me. Luckily it didnt take much resistance. I told her I had gone to the gym today and was back on my diet and she was really good about it!

After that, I got a haircut and decided I was gonna get brave enough to try to put highlights in my own hair. Shelby helped me a little with getting the back done and it turned out pretty good. Not the BEST job ever done, but it will work for now.. LOL

Decided to get off my behind and go to the first meeting for the local weight loss group I joined through meetup.com. Was VERY happy I did. Met some super nice ladies all with the desire to lose a few pounds and one of them has lost 135lbs total. Was a good first meeting for all of us. Just introductions and putting some goals on the table, then seeing who was available for what.. when.. to workout. Will definitely keep attending this group since I clicked with a lot of the ladies there, Im just not sure how frequently they will be getting together yet since this was the first meeting. Of course, they all wanted to know HOW i lost the weight I had and I told them "GO TO MFP & FIND THE TEAM" LOLOL.. so we may get a few more new people coming to find us.

So, I did what my horoscope said to do.. and I am now ready for bed!! Its not even 9:00 yet! Tomorrow is menu planning day & grocery shopping.. along with another trip to the gym. I'm a little sore, so I may need a swat with the slipper lulu!! :0)

CC ~ Good to see you!

Manda ~ Glad you had a good time at your retreat!

Jlb - Way to challenge yourself and adjust your goal! You go Miss Thang!!!! :drinker:

Kristi ~ I am certainly familiar with the act of standing in front of the fridge wantiiiiiinnnnngggg??? I am really interested in the "food interaction" concept as well. I'm gonna be doing some research too - so I'll show you mine if you show me yours, k?:blushing:

LI4G ~ Great to see ya friend! Pie? Pizza? Candy? Good thing that horoscope came along and rang your bell! LOL:laugh: Hope you had a great workout at the gym!

Adopt4 ~ I love Dave Ramsey's stuff. We did his workshop about 12 years ago (I should probably do the workbooks again!) It is a great system that requires commitment and strong discipline and you are right - the principles all apply to weight loss - taking small steps that give us the confidence to take the bigger steps! Love it!

You'll be glad to know that I CHOSE to get dressed again today, and I CHOSE to eat well and to drink my water AND to exercise! Woohooooo! That's a good Monday (and my co-workers were pretty happy about my getting dressed:tongue: )

    Nighty night team:yawn:

    Good morning everyone,

Last night was a treat, my husband was off playing basketball and I worked out with mom. Mom made my unemployed brother cook dinner for us while we worked out :drinker: If only someone else would cook every night. Thank goodness my mom sent me home with cooked spaghetti squash yesterday. It was so good, I ate it all - so I got my veges in for the day. I think I was supposed to share with hubby :blushing:

    Hey,
so here it is a little late but worth it.

    SW 195, GW 135, CW 168= 2lbs loss :)

I had fun at my retreat but came back with a bit of congestion/ cold. So I've been taking it easy. I expected to gain weight over the retreat but my cabin was the farthest from the main lodge and I walked instead of driving. I also did yoga both mornings that I was there. I'm really proud of myself for not eating crap over the weekend. There was lots of candy and temptations but I managed to stay focused on what I wanted for myself - to be healthy and good to my body,

    Have a great week

    P.S I'm almost half way!!!

    Wow.
Are we all so busy trying hard that we forgot to post?

Congrats to you, Manda, for being such a big loser!

How's everyone doing on Lulu's 5 servings of veggies a day challenge? I've been making it. I'll be cutting it close today with 1.5 servings of raw carrots, 1 serving of snap peas and red peppers at lunch and a serving of mushrooms and 2 servings of broccoli at dinner (I love broccoli! ) but if I stick to my plan, I'll make it. Yesterday I had a serving of zucchini, mushrooms, and tomatoes at lunch and 2 servings of broccoli at dinner (did I mention I love broccoli?). Yum!

Good morning team! I have to confess, the 5 servings of veggies is harder than I thought. However, I did better yesterday and today, I have meals planned out that will make sure I get my five in. I mentioned some information I have gotten about food interactions and what not, the initial information came from a book called "The False Fat Diet" by Elson M. Haas, M.D. he is a proponent of doing a juice fast occasionally. I am not sure about that, the information about allergy-like reactions we may have to food is pretty interesting. Another thing I have been reading on this topic is "The Gabriel Method" by Jon Gabriel.

Well, I am needing to get my workout it because I have to get to work early today.

Jib, I'm with you. Broccoli is one of my favorites!

    Take care everyone!

Good job with the healthy snack, AlmostHot!

I think my TOM is around the corner and I have a RAVENOUS appetite today. I'm trying to keep it in check but I'm so hungry! And it's not bored hungry. It's tummy growling very loudly hungry. So far today I've had a strawberry banana smoothie, 4.5 ounces of carrots, AND a Special K cereal bar. That's 345 calories and it's just 11am. :ohwell: At least the only other things I brought to work with me are a lean cuisine and a pear so I can't go too crazy (unless I visit a vending machine or either of our cafeterias.. yeah, there are 2 on my work campus). On top of that, I don't have any energy at all. I got up early to exercise -- today's my 30 day shred day but I just couldn't do it. I had to put in 30 minutes on my stationary bike instead. So tired. I don't know if that's because work has been so stressful the last couple of months or if it's because of my TOM. I've also been incredibly irritable all week. But again, I don't know if that's because of stress from work or TOM.

Anyway, I have a 5 DAY WEEKEND this weekend because thankfully I had the foresight to request the 2 days before Veterans’ day off next week because I knew this is our crazy time of year and I knew I was going to need it (of course TOM is going to show up on my mini-vacation :grumble: ). I need it more than I could have ever imagined. I have been so frustrated by both employees and coworkers. There have been times this week when I seriously thought about packing up my desk and just walking out of here forever. I haven't felt like that since I transferred here from another agency over a year ago (where I felt like walking out pretty much every day  ). :grumble:

Sorry I'm rambling and griping. I'm just a little overwhelmed at work right now. I'll be okay soon enough.

    Good job Almosthot! Yayyy you!

Okay, I definately think the best way to get my veggies is to do a small stir fry with 1/2 cup each of 2 to 3 veggies twice a day. If I eat them raw, they are soooooo filling. But I am definately getting in at least 4 servings - I've also had veggie soup a lot this week - just using a can of low-sodium vegetable broth and add 1 and 1/2 cups chopped veggies, salt, pepper, garlic and onion flakes, heat til the veggies soften and tadaaaaa - soup! (with 3 servings of veggies!) Good for lunch.

See you all tomorrow for the weigh in ~ hope its a good one:bigsmile:
