I have a question that I need some information on. How often should I do strength training??? Does strength training make you gain weight??? I had a weight gain of 4 pounds in 2 weeks and I wasn't sure if it was from gaining muscle or maybe eating too much......I'm not sure........If anyone can help me with this information I would greatly appreciate it!! Thanks!!

2-3 times a week. Muscle burns fat.0 -
Well, it probably wasn't all muscle growth, it takes a long time to gain that many pounds of muscle. It could be water retention from your muscles repairing themselves. Or you could be eating too much (hard to say without seeing your food/exercise diary)0

this.. and you're not going to gain 4 pounds of muscle in 2 weeks. it takes professional bodybuilders a year to gain 5-10 pounds of muscle.
more than likely what you gained was water weight0 -

2-3x a week is good for strength training. You may gain some weight with in the first few weeks because your body produces more blood plasma to accommodate your workouts. You should start losing shortly after.0 -
Agreed. 2-3 times/week is what a personal trainer advised me, because it balances building muscle and building too much muscle. She emphasised that I should be doing cardio about double what I do for weights too, so 2 weights sessions a week means a minimum of 4 cardio sessions.0

You might have gained weight if you started strength training but it's most likely water weight. (your muscles retaining water)
You did not gain 4 pounds of muscle in 2 weeks. It takes a lot of dedication and hard work plus eating a ton of food (well over maintenance) to gain muscle.
I would say you should strength train 2-4 days a week.0 -
Thanks to everyone who answered my question........I've been careful about what I'm eating so hopefully it is just water weight.0
