hula hooping

so i just started to get into hula hooping. It's so much fun. Anyone else out there a fan?

    I just started this week with a 3-pound hoop. I love it! Unfortunately, I do it indoors in our smallish apartment and my husband is convinced I'm going to break something. What can I say? I guess it makes me feel like a kid in more ways than one - and I love how it works my abs!

    i really want to give this a whirl (see what i did there!) i hear its great for your mid section, and mine needs all the help it can get! i'm not a big fan of exersizing in general, but this is more like play

    Me!! I just started about 2 weeks ago. It is fun and quite a workout! I got my hoop from walmart but I need a better one. I need one that is bigger and has more weight.

    ETA: you can buy them online, just google hula hoops. I'm looking at several websites right now.

    Why not just dance hula? Or Tahitian for that matter?

    It's sexier, is better for your core, and burns more calories in the process...:wink:

    I love hooping! I buy mine from Etsy. If anyone needs a seller, I've got a few bookmarked that are pretty fantastic.

    I'm to the point where I am starting to get a lot of decent tricks.

    Yea I do it as part of my belly dancing class, the teacher decided to do something different for around 15 in the class and its fun. I am from the UK and got my from Home Bargains at £7 if anyone is interested.:bigsmile:

    i broke a light bulb just last week... better to do it outside.

    I love to hula but currently am just doing it on wii fit plus. still love it! and it burns a lot of calories :)

I can't keep it going for more than a few turns before it's on the ground. What am I doing wrong? I've even watched a few beginner youtube videos and tried a couple of their ideas. No luck. Should I just keep trying?

    yes, you burn 200 calories for just 30 minutes of hooping!

    Keep trying! Also you may need a heavier hoop.

    it's a lot harder to hoop with the kind you get at the dollar store and such, you need a bigger and heavier one. I just made one for real cheap with supplies from home depot.
    you can google how to make your own hula hoop.

    I have been hooping since Jan. 2012 and I love it. I am in my front yard almost every day hooping and when I am not, I am on You Tube looking for more instruction and cooler tricks.

    For the person who stated, they can't do it anymore, the trick is to thrust your hips forward and back, so that your hips are actually pushing the hoop around. There is a misconception that our hips should circle and follow the hoop. The best way to start is with one foot in front of the other and practice just moving the hips forward and back.

    It will take a little "relearning", but in no time, you will be hooping again.

    I bought my hoop on Ebay from a gal who hand makes them in New Jersey. She even sent me a free one.

    According to my Hoopnotica instructor, she said 600 calories an hour. I know I didn't burn that much in class, but it may be different with a video.

    Do you mean that you can't keep it spinning or you get bored?

    If it's the spinning, you need to work more on technique. Hips should either move forward/back with feet staggered or hips side to side with feet parallel.

    If you are bored, use the hoop for both off the body and the on the body tricks. I like the video clips you can find on YouTube.
