Why isn't this on the market already? Panic Button/GPS

I've been wondering why there isn't a "panic" button GPS system for runners. I was just reading a favorite blog describing unfortunately yet another female solo runner that was killed recently and in the comments this link pulled up. I'm definitely going to be contributing and "preordering" mine. Go pledge/preorder lets get this on the market ASAP!

It is DEFINITELY needed. It's unfortunate that women have to run with someone to feel safe...
Just last Friday I had a group of kids harassing me on my run. Mind you, I don't think they would have done anything but I would have felt more confident if I'd had a 'panic button'.0 -
that is a really good idea, or maybe a smartphone app???
my daughters are 17 & 19 they dont run but the idea is great for so many other things not just running.0 -
I used to work in the cell phone industry, and the technology has been around awhile but there were a lot of municipalities that could not afford the E911 technology. That was awhile back though. I am glad that it is becoming more widespread.0

Carry a sidearm or at least pepper spray/taser. The panic button is commonly referred to as a "trigger".
Seriously, a panic button is a great idea but how long does it take to get police response? In a crowded urban area you might expect 3-5 minutes. In more rural areas it can be 20-30 minutes. You can be assaulted/kidnapped/killed ten times over before the cops will show up. That's the unfortunate reality of situations like this.0 -

This much is true. However, it's a bit difficult to carry a sidearm and/or taser when you're running. Pepper spray? Maybe... the others? That wouldn't be easy.0 -
or just run really fast! haha jk0

I've heard of a smart phone app called "Circle of Six" Not sure if it would be ideal as when I last checked, it wasn't available for my type of phone. Not sure if that's changed but from the features I read in a magazine article, it may work. Free app that's worth looking into anyway...0

The technology is definitely there, I noticed yesterday if i'm using aim on my phone I can send my location with a map via IM0

You might think so, but there are many, many clever methods of concealing a pistol or a taser for running.
Something like a smartcarry or thunderwear:

The PT1 or 2:

Holster undershirts:

Or just about any generic belly band really. Hell I've seen bras with built-in holsters on the bottom:
