My vent!!

I dunno what it is but I just can't stand to hear/read the word "Fat". I have never used that word nor anyone in my family does. I will not allow it. I think that word is so degrading, humiliating and just wrong to say. Many other words could be used in place. Obese, large, big & to much of someone, etc. Am I the only one that has this problem?

I guess I would rather be called fat then obese. Fat is thrown around so much that it has lost a lot of its meaning where obese you really have to be seriously overweight before you are called that. Maybe it just too many years of seeing the "morbidly" in front of obese on my medical charts.

It is just a word, made up of letters. Yet these words seem to have so much power. Think of yourself whichever way you wish to.

I can't stand lots of words...well fat is not one of them...
But I make sure not to use these words infront of someone that could be just a tad overweight...and I never use it to any woman. LOL

If the truth fits...lose it :)

I don't particularly like the word 'fat' but prefer it to being called obese, or worse yet, morbidly obese. I'm just very short for my weight, sigh. One day at a time...One pound at a time

It's not a problem for me because the other words just translate to the same thing when I hear them in my head. Heck, eventually society attaches the same connotations to the new word and we come up with something else to replace the replacements. Soon we'll be "fit-challenged" or something.

I say call it what it is and actually fix the problem, not the word. IMO, anyway.

I'm ok with fat I have problems with BIG. When I was in my early 20's I was 5'9'' and weighed 145 thin but still curvy and I was called BIG instead of tall ..just me nothing wrong with either word just how we react to them.

I still hate to be called BIG

I don't have a problem with it. No one has called me fat other than myself though.

The word Fat doesn't get to me one bit. It is what it is right?

Now if we were talking about the word CONVERSATE then I would agree with you! Is conversate really a word or did someone just make it up? All I know is people often say conversate when they actually should be saying converse.

I like this, I don't really like the word fat either, it has so many negative effects of all types of people, but I think nowadays it's become taboo and people who are labelled 'fat' hide behind the term ' clinically overweight' etc as it can be looked at somewhat as a condition, but when it comes to reality that person has too much fat. I wish it 'fat' didn't have such a negative feeling towards it.

I always thought that "conversate" was coined by some reality TV kids in a hot tub.

Fat. Doesn't bother me so much. Unless its directed at ME. Then - I have a problem.

But you know what word really grosses me out? Erogenous. It sounds old; and dirty.

It is nonstandard. Basically like using slang. It would be considered a word in common usage, but not proper speech.

My stomach is fat....but I don't think the rest of me is fat at all....I mean its flobby and jiggly -- .that's fat....but as a whole I would definitely NOT say I'm fat.....and people who say to me THEY are fat, I think they are beautiful :smooched:

Some people's fat is another persons:
    "Thick"
    "Chunky"
    "Curvy"

Of all the ugly words out there, I have never considered "fat" to be one of them. I certainly don't think obese is a better choice.

I understand.. some words are triggers for us.. and if someone says it empower yourself by telling them that to you saying that to others is unacceptable.

If you can't right now, then you will when you are strong enough.

    I have trigger words/pictures/ people whatever. :)

    we are all supportive!

Fat is not an offensive word to me unless used in a pejorative context.

I am fat, I need to lose fat, when I run I burn calories from fat. It's just a word and, in the correct context, a statement of fact.

    You're a bloody fat prick - that's offensive.
You're fat and need to lose some pounds not offensive.

Fat isn't a bad word. What's bad is the associations that go along with the word 'fat' in some peoples' minds -- dirty, lazy, sloppy, ugly, unhealthy -- that go unspoken.

That's other peoples' problem, not yours/ours. They don't know you. Fat is just a body size, just a fact and it doesn't mean anything on its own.

I am fat. You see this jiggly stuff on my body? That is fat. It is not muscle, bone, or connective tissue. It is fat.

I am trying not to be fat... but it is what it is.

Words by themselves mean nothing. You put the meaning behind them.

And I am sick and tired of all the political correctness. Just call things what they are.

I hate the word fat. I makes me feel gross and squirmy. I think it should only be used as it's single form: a pound of fat. A pound of fat gone, etc. I don't think people should call themselves fat, because that doesn't describe the person. It's like calling a toned person a muscle. Nobody does that. You are an overweight person with extra pounds OF fat. In the end, everybody is a "PERSON", not a fat.

    Just a preference.

I generally describe myself as "too heavy" because even though I have more than 100 pounds to lose (or just under, now), much of my weight is in my butt/thighs/hips.

My 16-year-old daughter (who's generally not a diplomat by any stretch of the word) says, "You're not fat, you're plump. Like one of those fairy tale grandmothers."
