Calories burned while cleaning?

I'm scrubbing my kitchen from top to bottom for the next few days! I worked 7 and a half hours - cleaning the inside of cabinets, cleaning the inside of the fridge, washing dishes, and reorganizing EVERYTHING. :)

I know I've worked up a sweat today climbing up on top of things and whatnot, so I'm not afraid to count this as exercise... Especially since I usually spend all day sitting on the couch and doing online school. But, come on MFP!! 1500 calories for 'light' cleaning? That can't be right... :P

So will somebody help me figure out a more reasonable number please? I'm 5'8'' and about 185 pounds. :flowerforyou:

I'd take the number that MFP says. Even though I agree cleaning is a huge chore and can make you sweat -it's not really bringing your heart rate up at a consistent level to burn a ton of calories. Yes - you burned more than normal (and great job on all the cleaning!!!) but I wouldn't consider it like "working out" for that amount of time.

Are you suggesting it's too high? I dunno, 200 calories an hour doesn't seem insane to me. You probably burn about 100 an hour just standing around, but I am never really sure if it's double-counting BMR.

you're welcome to come help me turn my living room into a bedroom for my son (1 bedroom house) ... I've been putting it off for months because the LR furniture is a beast to move by myself :grumble:

I can also leave the A/C off and we can get crazy sweaty  (currently 82 deg 54% humidity @10 am)

I will gladly count every calorie that MFP allows me for that project - and I"m 5'9" at 234 - even if it's not as full of a burn as MFP gives credit for- - it motivates me to do more later
