That you ate 1000 calories each day. You burn 200 through exercise. You gain weight. When you get your metabolism tested you find out your BMR is 1100. So you should be losing. What are some reasons why you wouldn't be? Some I can think of: Miscalculating intake, inaccurate metabolic test, and I don't know what else!

(These are not true numbers, but I'm curious about what people think here)

How long has this been going on? Reason I ask is if it's a test period of one week it could be water retention or woman things. Long term could me the things you mentioned.

    Miscalc intake for sure.
  • Starvation mode may have set in. Clearly not eating enough.

But if it was starvation mode wouldn't the BMR indicate that by being lower?

your metabolism has slowed to a snails pace and you need to eat at your TDEE for at least a few weeks or more to get it going again....

But in this case the person is eating less than their tested metabolic rate, not just what their metabolic rate "should" be, so shouldn't they lose

If you've had metabolic testing and you're sure you're eating under it, it is medication or or miscalculation.

How does one go about getting their metabolism tested? Just curious because I am 30, 5'2, 124 and am up at 6:30 with my son, do stuff around the house & yard all day (kids stuff, chores, etc), then work from 4p-12a. I am always on the go-go-go and want to know what my body is needing/wanting, etc.

Sorry to take over your thread ...

i would cut out carbs, eat about 20 grams a day from veggies... then see what happens after a month.

No problem! google New Leaf or Med Gem. They can test it for you. Most dietiticans will do it as well as health clubs. I am going to a RD.

    QFT!

And food! WAY more than 1200...

    When I was THAT on-the-go I was eating 2000 a day and still losing a little. (5'2", 112, 33 y/o)

Yes, it doesn't sound like you get much sleep. And you work so late! Do you snack after work? I know I would wind up adding an extra meal in there which would add more calories.

Depends on how much excess fat they have....even then the losing won't last forever

Starvation mode may have set in. Clearly not eating enough.

If starvation mode exists it would take more than a few months eating low to cause it. I've been eating 600 or lower, sometimes higher with exercise, and it sure hasn't set in with me. I don't believe it exists.

1200 calories was never enough for me. I have been hoping that this raise in calorie intake will help out a little more... and sleep. It works wonders not only for your mind, but simply the better refreshed you are, the happier you will be throughout the day! :)

It is...lol...it's the plague made up by someone to scare you into eating more when you don't really need to.

my guess is, because it works. i've been at about 750-800 for the past 6 weeks. at four weeks (last weigh-in/measure) i had lost over 12 lbs and 12 total inches. i expect it to be somewhere around 15lbs/15inches when i weigh in tomorrow morning. i've had tons of energy, showing great muscle tone where there was none before, and my clothes are falling off. obviously this can't be maintained forever, but as long as you keep your protein levels up, eat lots of veggies, and take a multi every day, short term it really isn't hurting anything. i feel great, and i'm never hungry. my husband has commented that my skin feels softer/smoother, and my hairdresser says my hair is in much better condition too. those things don't happen from malnutrition. it may not be something you are willing to do, but that doesn't make it wrong. dr's prescribe vlcd's all the time. i doubt you know more than they do.
