So i was listening to the radio this morn and they converted the gas prices in Ottawa Canada to the prices in the US ......
so the lowest price for gas today in the Ottawa area today is 1.08 a liter..... which converts to 4.10 a gallon american (and considering our currency prices are close to equal at the moment)
And the highes price youll pay in the Ottawa area today is 1.29 a liter .... which is 4.90 a gallon:noway:
They also said that gas prices in ottawa are supposed to reach a high this summer of up to 2.50 a liter!!!!!!! which converted is 9.50 a gallon!!!!!!! HOLY CRAP city bus here i come!!!!! gonna have to get some goats to trim my lawn too!!!!

We have goats! They are doing a pretty good job too. Haven't had to mow yet this year. :laugh:0 -
Yup. I ride the bus because I can't afford to even buy a car let alone buy gas for one. It's a whole lot cheaper. A monthly bus pass cost me $99 because I work in a different county than I live. My son's monthly bus pass is only $54.0

9.50 a gallon!!!!!!!
OMG!@!!!!!!!0 -
It's going to be, pretty soon, like you are just paying to drive back and forth to work~and not bringing home a paycheck at all:grumble: Cost-of-living increase, anyone???0

I hear ya! Its insane!
I have always driven big boats (cars) or trucks and I love em....but now I have a prius on my wish list....or a bike w/ a side buggy for my boy! lol...that would be a site huh!:noway:
hugs and deep breaths!

I just gave my metropass a big sloppy kiss.
I may even kiss the bus driver later.0 -

Buy a road bicycle. Seriously - once you get the hang of it it isn't unrealistic to go 35/40 miles per hour on a decent bike. Not only do you save money on gas, you get in great shape too.0

Gas prices are INSANE, but I'm not going to give up driving...I like it too much!! They'll get my car keys when they pry them from my cold dead fingers!!! I try to conserve gas (no more "burning rubber" from the red light:ohwell: ), and I combine trips a lot.0 -

Yeah it is absolutely crazy! My mom told me last night that on top of the already outrageous gas prices Illinois is getting ready to add another 10 cents per gallon to their taxes. We should be removing taxes not adding them. How Flipping Insane are they!?0 -
My gas savers - I am on a military post, so our "convenience store", my bank, one of the gyms I use are only 2miles (round trip) away. So, I walk or bike to all of them. I have a regular double stroller and a double bike trailer, so I either push or tow 80lbs worth of kids. I am so put off by the gas prices, that when I need to go to the grocery store I am determined to ride the bike w/the trailer and shop that way. I figure it is a 6m round trip. My husband has two weeks of leave coming up and I figure we are going to be walking to the lake a lot because I cringe at the gas prices0

They need to get up off their dead butts...tap into those Strategic Oil reserves, do something!!
They can spend BILLIONS of dollars on an unjust, unwinnable war, but they can't knock off the gas taxes?
What a crock.0 -
not to mention all our food prices are going up to because the price to transport them is going up..... ill be frequenting the farmers market this summer too....0
-
No kidding...
Milk is $5/gallon here (US).
OJ is $7/gallon.
Mid-range bread is$3 to $4 a loaf. Nothing under $1.50, even for the day-old stuff they need to sell quick.
Fuel isn't too bad because I am in a port city. Just $3.70/gallon. I don't drive much though.
Oh... and can we stop turning our food into fuel yet? Dumb dumb dumb idea. I likes me some corn.0 -
I've started growing my own tomatoes and green peppers...every little bit that I don't have to buy at the store HAS to help, right?:ohwell:0

wow i can get milk here for 4.49 a gallon and bread here is about 1.89 for a loaf of the wonder plus bread ( which is all my kids will eat) and juice doesnt really come by the gallon here but i bought 2 liter containers of fivealive the other day for .99 cents each(sale reg 1.99 each).... i guess our food prices are better but gas is worse.....now that doesnt make any sense?!?!?!!? i heard of a new car that they are making that runs on water.... now that seems more practical but will the water vapor make the weather funky if we are all driving them?0 -

We had snow yesterday..:grumble: don't know if spring will ever get here.
Ordered a "topsy turvey" grower (the infomercial suckered me!!) so looking forward to growing some tomatoes & cucumbers this year!!0 -
Conserve gas...toot into a jar! :laugh:0

I'm doing the same thing, except I'm looking to start a small hydroponic garden in my kitchen to grow lettuce/romaine/spinach. Its simple enough and will keep it going all year round.
Best way to beat the system in situations like this is to remove yourself from it0 -

Hey, if gas is going to be 10 dollars, looks are unimportant.0 -
Wow, I thought ours was high but it's only $3.41 a gallon today! I guess we are getting a pretty good deal here in Iowa!0
-
Tell me about it!
We live in Houston and work on opposite sides of the city, so no matter where we live at least one of us has to drive a fair way to get to work. My husband goes through a full tank of gas every 9 days!!! That's a LOT of $$$$. :explode: I want to move closer to my work when our lease is up so I can bike everyday and save that way, but still... we need to move out of the city. We have a convertible but choke on the fumes whenever we get stuck on the highway in traffic. LAME.0 -
I'm seriously investigating making biodiesel from waste cooking oil. I've already made some experimental batches and I'm trying to improve my process and product. With any luck, I'll be making usable fuel sometime this summer.
We have some of the cheapest gas in the US at $3.39/gal and it's still killing me. My truck gets 13 mpg and I drive 40 mi. round-trip to work.0 -

Be careful doing it - some states are actually starting to arrest people for doing it. They're claiming its tax fraud because you don't pay fuel taxes on it :grumble:

Gas is about $3.60 in Vegas right now.
I'm moving in 6 weeks and I'm not looking forward to paying for the gas from NV to KY - 2200 miles.
My car, my husband's truck, and the moving truck.... triple whammy!0 -
I just put $55.00 in my car and it gave me 3/4 of a tank. It is insane. We went and looked at Buells and scooters today. I think we are going to invest in another motorcycle and a scooter. It is too expensive. I have no problem strapping on a helmet and riding even when it is 100 plus out. 56-65 mpg is so much better and worth the heat.0
-
Look at it this way, with gas and food prices going up, there is WAY more motivation to walk more and eat less! Going to the farmer's market also helps support your local farmers. There are so many positive ways to look at this - maybe in the end this will be a good thing for all of us!0

What totally erks me is the fact that the government is supposed to put price caps on staples like gasoline. Yet they are allowing the prices to soar so high it is helping the economy to plummet into a depression.
During my college years (mind you 20 years ago) - I studied the sources of energy used by the US (gas was one of them). Back then we had enough gasoline reserves to last 100 years should we lose supply from other countries, the resource be depleted, etc., allowing us time to find other natural (or man-made) resources.
My point being, why can't the government tap into some of our reserves & keep the prices down here in the US? I'm not sure of what effect that may have on the global economy (being that so much is imported), but come on!!! There are solutions out there - I'd like to know why the government hasn't come up with one. :grumble:0 -
