Bodymedia FIT and using MFP

Hey everyone!

So forgive me if this has been rehashed to death, but Im very confused on this.

I currently have a Bodymedia Fit armband and Im according to the last 2-4 days, I burn in total, with exercise included about 2000-2200 calories a day. This is everything for a day (Im a student so Im pretty sedentary but I work out for about 45-50 minutes a day).

Anyway, I would ideally like to have a 500-1000 calorie deficit.

If this is the case, then can I still use MFP?
Do I just subtract 500-1000 from 2000-2200 and that is how many calories I need to eat in a day?
I hate the Bodymedia nutrional counter, it pretty much has no data base and I like using MFP's calorie counters.

So with MFP, do I just not log my exercise for the day?

Yes, you can :) I do the same.
I've made an exercise called "Bodybugg" which I set to burn 1kcal/minute and then I just add the amount on "minutes" to get the number from my bodybug/modymedia fit so that I can see the deficit easier.

When I used my Bodymedia, I used MFP too for the same exact reason you stated--their food database sucks. I suppose you can do it either way-- set your calorie goal for 2000 and log your exercise (which will probably be a little off from the Bodymedia reporting), or set it for 1500 and not log your exercise. I did the latter. I've since quit using mine, I learned my body well enough and didn't feel like paying the fee anymore.

For sure! Ok so if I burn around 2200 daily including working out on average, then I depending on what I want my deficit to be (like 700-1000) I just subtract that and the answer is what I can eat.

    So 2200-700= 1500 cals
    2200-1000=1200 cals

So I can eat around 12-1600 calories give or take depending on what I want my deficit to be.

    Thanks guys!

I burn from 2000-2500 per day and eat between 1500-1700 daily. I'm not trying to lose weight though, just recomping slowly.

ETA: And I get those TDEE #'s from my BMF, forgot to add.

That seems like a lot of extra work. I mean, does the Bodymedia Fit actually help you guys with your goals? I get that it can be useful in telling you how many calories you actually burn as a human being every day, but after that, it seems to be pretty much just like an FT4 from Polar, but the latter actually says how many calories you burn while you're exercising. I've been considering getting one of these, but the more I read about them, the more I keep wondering why. I'm hoping someone can tell me what the real benefit is before I shell out $150 to get it set up. Help?
