Exercising post reconstructive breast surgery - need advice!

Hello....I need some advice. 5 years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer (age 31) and had a latissimus flap reconstruction. I would like to start strength training/toning but I'm afraid of what this will do to me since my latissimus muscle is now stretched from my back to my chest! Any help/advice is appreciated!
Thanks!
Thanks!

This probably can only be answered by a professional who can actually see you.

I would definitely consult a doctor and maybe a trainer that has experience working with physical therapy type clients. Or a physical therapist maybe.0

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003. I had a double mastectomy with DIEP reconstruction - another type of flap surgery. I would suggest you see a physical therapist who specializes in women post mastectomy - you might be able to get your doctor refer you and your insurance should cover it. Did you have any lymph nodes removed? I believe recent research has found that weight lifting may guard against lymphodema.
I am using kettlebells - which are great for both cardio and weight lifting benefits. PM me if you are interested.

Thanks, ladies! I am planning on consulting a physical therapist but was just wondering if anyone else has had the same reconstruction as me and how they've dealt with it.0

hay, sorry to hear you went through that. i am a personal trainer and i would suggest as the others have said go see your doctor, see what they say, and they should be able to provide a referal service of some kind for you, it might be a physio initially, but whichever route they go down you'll get good advice!!! hope you stay healthy and happy in the future!!!0
