Almost at goal weight but have to reconsider :(

I am so frustrated... I have lost so much weight (and yes, I'm very proud of myself), but just saw a bunch of pictures of myself from last weekend and realized that I have a long ways to go yet. We don't have any full length mirrors in the house, and I guess since I was losing pounds and inches, I thought I was almost "there". I figured that once I got to my pre-pregnancy weight, I would be good. Turns out that kids change your body a lot more than you think :noway: I'm guessing I have about another 20 lbs. to go! Has anyone else reached their goal weight, only to realize that they have a long ways left? How far were you "off" in your calculations/how much more did you end up needing to lose?

I have mine set to 170 for now. When I get there, I will probably set a new goal. I just thought it would be a good first goal. That is when I plan on starting the toning and strength on a more "hardcore" level. If that makes any sense.
I see no problem with setting a new goal after reaching your original goal. Be proud! You have done excellent! :drinker:0 -
LOL! I don't think that most of us have a chance in hell of getting back the exact body we had pre-kids.
One of the songs I absolutely love is Hot Mama by Trace Adkins...it is an eye opener for sure.
Keep in mind, many guys would rather have a woman with a little padding on them than a really cut woman who is super focused on diet and exercise. You are a freakin black belt--I am sure that if you keep going with the martial arts stuff, you will start seeing some muscle definition and body comp changes!0 -
Unless you were strength training and eating adequate protein while losing you've probably lost a good deal of muscle along with the fat. This is most likely why you aren't happy with your body composition. I'd suggest getting into heavy lifting and eat at least 1 gram of protein for every pound of lean body mass as you continue to lose.0

Oh yeah...I don't think I will EVER see my pre-pregnancy weight again. I suspect that I will have to revise my goals as I get closer--I am only 2-3 sizes away from where I would be happy. If I keep strength training, I suspect I will have so much lean body mass that I cannot possibly get down to the weight I was 17 years ago.
My goal is 145 or about a size 8/10. if I hit 160 and I am comfortable in a size 8/10, I will switch to maintenance. I was an 8 when I got pregnant with my oldest, and I was about a size 10 when I got pregnant with my second child....we won't discuss where I was when I got pregnant last time!0 -
When I first started MFP, I set my goals at 30lbs to lose, figuring that was all I could hope for. Once I started losing, I realized that I would still be at the high end of "overweight" for my height, and reset my goals to 40lbs. I am 2 pounds away from my original goal, and am now thinking that I may reset to another 10lbs, depending on how I feel when I get to my current goal weight. I'm definitely planning on switching to maintenance levels for a month when I reach 40lbs, to settle into that weight and see how I feel about myself, how much energy I have, etc.0

Listen to her. I am right about 3 pounds from being overweight on my avatar but strength training made me smaller than I was before I gave birth to 6 kids.0 -
I am shooting for 150. When I get there, I will reassess and see if I feel I need to lose another 10. But at 150, I will be pretty DARN happy. I havent been that light since I first got married.0

I have no idea what my goal weight is. I'm just going to keep going until I feel I'm where I want to be.0

I agree with the sentiment that your next focus should be more on building lean muscle than on the numbers on the scale.
You're looking great--next is thinking about what you want from your body.0 -
First of all, I saw your before and after pictures and you are looking fantastic now. What a tremendous improvement. Way to go!
I noticed it has only been a year or so since you had your last baby. Getting back into shape, especially if you had gained a fair amount of weight, takes time.
Just keep on with a good strength training program and I'm sure you will get where you want to be whether it be at another 10 lbs. from now or more or less. It is now more about body composition then weight.
Again, congratulations on the weight loss.0 -
I have to say that the pictures I looked at of last weekend, I thought, WOW! You are looking AMAZING! I would personally not set a # but just keep doing what you're doing and if you are eating enough calories and the weight is still coming off, then I would say just let it come off. You are losing really well right now and you are achieving so many goals. You look so healthy to me and that is awesome. Try not to get too down on yourself or frustrated. You are doing AMAZING!0
