Bob Harper and The Skinny Rules

His new book is out today. Basically it suggests protein with every meal-one glass of water before every meal and 8-12 glasses per day-one day with no animal protein (to focus on fruits and veggies) and one "splurge" day a week.
any thoughts?
I think you should fully read it instead of telling people what you think you skimmed over. Theres more tips than this and He suggests to shoot for 5 cups of water a day. One day of no meat and one splurge meal per week to keep us sane.0 -
Fall for marketing schemes much? Because I have these pills....they are MAGIC!0

I will have to look into it, I usually love Bob. From the rough outline, it seems like a good plan to me. Just curious what protein sources he suggests with every meal? Is it always meat?
read much??0 -
He said to have a splurge meal not a splurge day.

thanks for the correction.0 -
I have a splurge meal either every week or every 2 weeks. I don't eat everything in site. I plan my day. I exercise, I eat well all day and for dinner I will have what I want. I still count those calories. Because I have made changes in how I eat, I often find that my splurge meal does not go that much over my daily calorie allotment, sometimes not at all. I think I do better during the day because I know I am going to treat myself at dinner. I also have found that the change up, helps me keep my weight loss on track. No one is saying that you should wake up and eat your way to bed.0

Though normally, I liked Bob, Im starting to wonder about him though.
I don't think it's a gimmick to explain what a balanced diet is. The more I learn about food and fueling my body, the more I realize that what the average person thinks is "healthy and balanced" really isn't.0 -

He actually says to do one splurge MEAL a week. The thought behind it is that when you plan the splurge you are in control.I like the idea of a meatless day a week. And you don't NEED animal protein per se. Quinoa is the only non animal substance that is also a complete protein, like animal protein. So you wouldn't be missing the other parts of the proteins like with other sources of protein.
Problem solved.0 -
I just read the book, and in no way does he say not to eat animal protein. He even says that fish (which is an animal) is the ideal protein. I am not cool that one of his food rules is no potatos, but everything else seemed logical.

I thought about buying this book but don't want to pony up the dough if it's just going to tell me things that I already know...0

What happened to good ole' calories in v calories out?0 -
just curious, why do you say "soy is garbage"?Also, the phytoestrogens in soy can have a harmful effect on the estrogen levels in men and women, causing hormonal imbalances.

Bob does not say 'no animal protein.' Look at the recipes he includes. I am already down 6 pounds and I am sold!0

I was liking the ideas until it got to the "no animal protein".
You need to be eating meat as a main protein source.
Soy is garbage.
but other than that yes, it's nothing new really. Drink water, and eat protein.
This is crap. You don't "need to be eating" animal protein. You can get all the protein you need from other sources. This is total garbage.0 -
I do not like the point where he said that white rice it terrible for you.
I ate white rice (short grain calrose) every day, twice a day growing up. I graduated high school weighing less than 100 lbs.
Personally, I don't think white rice is as bad as everybody says it is, but that is my own personal opinion, I personally experienced eating it that often, and I wasn't fat. I didn't participate in sports either.
I will still eat soy, and I make sure it's organic.0 -
Just read it- AWESOME! (and scary...because turns out I have quite a bit to change :-/ I was in denial). He's not totally anti-animal protein...he suggests eggs, fish, limited meat etc! He is very pro-protein!0
