So, I am new to this site, and have been power walking and eating only fruit, vegitables, fat free no fat greek yogurt, fish, chicken breast, salad and peanuts for a long time. I have lost over 75 pounds. I drink at least a gallon or more of water a day. I like water, I am always thirsty. And yet I always feel dehydrated. My lips are even dry sometimes. I don't eat salt. When I excersise walking, or jumping jacks, or jogging, or arobics. Not only do I get really tired after about 5 minutes, but I also gain wieght from my stomach to my knees. I mean major. My loose pants become super tight and uncomfortable, and looking in the mirror It looks like I gained about 50 pounds. I sweat like crazy, and I pee every hour on the hour. It is almost as if when I drink water, it goes right to my kindneys, and I am thirsty again right away? Any Idea's? Is this normal? thanks in advance for your help and advice. I still have a ways to go on my wieght loss. I have gone from size 44 pants to size 38. My goal is smaller yet. any advice?

feeling dehydrated even after drinking a lot of water is sometimes a sign of diabetes.

Speak to your doctor, it's not normal
  • I was afraid you were going to say something like that! :( But I don't really feel bad...I mean my Mom had diabetes and she felt horrible when her sugar was out of control. I only feel very hungry at times and weak until I eat. but not bad or shaky like she did so I was kind of hoping that it is something else? :( Thank you for your inputs!

Put your mind at rest and get the Doc check it out especially as your Mum had it. Good luck!
  • Your probably right! I guess I need to just do it! Thank you!

The color of your urine will also tell you if you are getting enough water... If it is clear to light yellow, you are probably getting enough water, however, if it is dark yellow you are losing more though sweat.

A little sodium will help with water retention. I drink Powerade Zero post exercise to keep the sodium in (I don't add salt to my food)

Also, I have found that the clothing I wear also can wick a lot of sweat away during my runs.

maybe you are not getting enough salt, sometimes I don't get enough and I will feel very tired (possibly due to low blood pressure) but as for the sudden weight gain around your midsection, I am at a loss. I would see your doctor and get some bloodwork. He can tell you if there something like diabetes, low sodium, or maybe kidney disease? There are a few other things that could cause you to drink and pee a lot. get checked out so you can get back on track! and congrats on the 70lb weight loss!
  • Hi, thanks for your help. My Urine is water clear. as I said, I drink bottled water all day long, and with in a half hour I am letting it back out! I would hope I am getting enough water! I might grow gills pretty soon! LOL That was a concern. I am just thinking something I am eating.....or not eating as you suggested your powerade. I would think that the potasium in my fruit would balance against what little salt I get from the food that I eat. Yes, my shirts and pants are always soaked by the time I return from a walk/jog. Thanks Dave.

  • Thanks Jodi. I will have to get checked out. The water wieght gain is only temporary. when I wake up in the morning. My size 38 jeans are very loose....I have peed at least 3 times during the night....And by the time I go to bed at night, My jeans are tight on me.....It is so frustraighting...
