What was I thinking?

I was doing great....for a while. Then I got laid off (moved from full to part-time/occassional) and I basically gave up. I couldn't think about anything but resumes, interviews, bills, and how I was going to get through it.

I haven't thought a lot about my weight or health in 3 months. Saturday, I got on the scale, and I had only gained back 2lbs in those months, but it was enough to motivate me to get back at it. The problem I'm having now is that I am watching every dime. Before, I was willing to drive 20 miles to go to the Ymca that has a lot of classes and a bigger pool. I was willing to spend a TON of money every week on fresh fruits, berries, almonds, greek yogurt...etc.

I made great choices at the grocery store this week, but I spent more than I can reasonably expect to while on diminished pay. Now I am having a panicky feeling that my inspiration to get back to work on myself is going to be thwarted by $$.

Has anyone else gone through this? I need ideas, support, or just a little understanding. What do you think MFP?

I am very sorry to hear that you were laid off! Unexpected things like this happen all the time and we are never prepared for them but we can push past them and move forward! I am not in the same situation as you but I have cut back on costs a lot because with raising a family, I just can't simply afford all the things I was doing. I stopped going to my Weight Watchers meetings which was $40 a month and I cut down on going out to eat and grocey spending. I buy my groceries weekly and I only get the needed essentials. You can still eat healthy and not spend a lot but I know it is a challenge sometimes. Hang in there sweetie!

I am so sorry you lost your job, tough times for sure. I do understand not having money for things though - I am the sole income for a family of 5! I do NOT make a lot of money, so everything is done on the cheap. Coupons + sales is how I eat healthy... I have outfitted (SLOWLY) my home to be where I work out, there is no way I could afford a gym or the gas to get there. DVDs the work on strength and cardio and don't require any extras are wonderful! We have a 2nd hand books and more store that I got some great Tae Bo and Bootcamp DVDs for $5/ea. It can be done, just have to learn to get more creative :) Keep your chin up and don't allow the stress to take over... we all know what stress does for weight loss

    Thanks :)

I used to think about all the awesome new clothes I'd reward my self with at my goal weight and how I'd love to take a beach vacation with my hubby once I was swim-suit ready. Now I just think about how much we are giving up.

I need to just focus on my health as something I CAN control....the economy is not in my hands. I think I'll feel better if I'm having some successes, so I'll keep plugging along.

I'm so sorry about your job!!!! I'm sure you'll find a new one! As for money, ya I am finding eating healthier is very expensive. Yesterday we went shopping just for 2 of us and with out getting meat (as we normally get it from the butchers). We spent like 75 euro just on some fruit, veg, and low cal odds and ends....

Yet, if you think about it....buying the pricier healthy stuff is still cheaper than buying tons of junk food that makes you crave more foods....because then you just end up eating more....at least eating cleaner keeps you from being hungry and spending excess money on more junk just to try and fill up the void the junk food makes you think you have!

I've noticed in just one week of cutting out most of the stuff I use to eat I'm less hungry and have more energy! So in fact I'm eating less. (Although one night I did have a glass of chocolate milk, and one day we went to a coffee shop and that was bad lol but I quickly learned my lesson there about coffee shops LOL)

You can do it!!! You're a woman....women are strong creatures!!! *RAWR*
