36 pounds lost since January!

I woke up one morning in January 2012 and realized that my weight was getting out of control. I grew up a skinny person and had been up until the last 5 years. With my 40th birthday approaching, I set a goal for myself to lose 30 pounds before my birthday on June 25 and signed up for this site on recommendation from a friend. I started running at night for the first time in years and supplemented with the Kettleworx kettle bell exercise videos on nights when I was not able to run. I did meet that goal of 30 pounds about a month and a half ahead of schedule, so I changed my goal to reach 40 pounds before my 40th birthday, which would put my final number at 180 lbs.

Well, the final weigh-in from yesterday morning – 184.6, so I didn’t quite make the second goal. But I'm not discouraged in the least... will take the next couple of weeks and still try to get there.

But here is how far I came:

BEFORE: 220 lbs. 23% body fat

AFTER: 184.6 lbs. 17% body fat (and I can run 6 miles at a time!)

Still room for improvement, but not bad if I say so myself! I feel great and feel that I am doing something that I can sustain!

Definitely a change in eating habits and drinking less alcohol are at the core. This site was enlightening as to how bad certain foods really were that I was eating often (and a lot of it). Then I basically went from no exercise, to various alternations of running intervals, long runs, walking a couple of nights a week, and kettle bell workouts.

In the past I've tried using supplements and "diet pills", but as we all know, those results are only temporary. Outside of the occasional "5 Hour Energy" shot to give me a little extra energy at night because I was typically running at 9 or 10 PM after my kids were in bed... I did it without chemical assistance.

Thank you all for the kind words and good luck on your own journeys!
