Pizza (or, Things I'll Never Give Up)

I eat it.. 2 slices, plain cheese, once a week. From a pizzeria, not a chain. It's not something I'm ever going to give up.

I've read posts that indicate that some MFP members will berate others for eating pizza (although I haven't seen it first hand.)

But we're trying to build lifestyles that we can maintain long term, right? I'm a Jersey Girl, for crying out loud. Life without pizza is cruel and unusual punishment, in my estimation.

What food will you never, ever give up?

    Give up?
Why? I am not giving up ANYTHING.
Seriously, if you want to deprive yourself of fabulous eating, go for it.
    Not me - ever.

Coffee creamer. I could switch to an entirely clean vegetarian existance if it allowed for french vanilla coffee creamer.

Pizza, ice cream, cheeseburgers, pasta, the list goes on and on. :) I just treat myself one or two days a week with one of these things, not all, and I have lost a total of 86 lbs doing this. I refuse to "give up" anything. :)

pizza IS delicious but i recently started making my own from scratch and much prefer it to any kind of store bought/restaurant pizza and i justify it because its whole wheat dough with healthy toppings. mmmm. pizzaaaaa. also, cant give up cheese. i've cut down considerably but i'll never cut it out even though i know i should (trying to watch sodium)

I refuse to give up anything, cause the second I do that is what I will start craving.
  • I think its just every thing in moderation. of course, no one should have to give up pizza forever. That's just crazy talk. lol. i love my pizza. and there is so much other junk food that i'm addicted too, and i would never give up no matter what. for me tho, its just all about moderation, and fitting in what i want to eat, into my daily calorie goal. eat your pizza. don't feel guilty.

    -Wine
    -Any kinda pasta alfredo
    -chinese food
    -chocolate chip cookies
    -ice cream
    -cappucinos

I'll never give these up. I try to limit myself to this kind of gluttony to one day a week within maintenance calories. But I absolutely refus to go another 50-60 years without another glass of pinot grigio or crab rangoon ever again. Uh Uh no way

Exactly! I do the same, from restaurants that only use high-quality fresh ingredients. Will always love pizza - just keeping my portions in check now.

I haven't given up anything except regular soda, but now I just try practice more moderation. My weekly things turned into bi-weekly things, and I'm not missing them. In my mind, the taste of good food only lasts a few minutes, but my improving health and money savings last a lot longer....

Yes please and thank you. This is my dinner tomorrow night.
  • POP-TARTS. I love pop-tarts. If I have room for it in my daily goal, I have one. :)
I don't deprive myself; I'm worried I will be unhappy and quit altogether.
More food I love: pasta, cheese, Mexican food, ice cream, candy, pizza definitely, so many other things.

I don't plan to give anything up. I have changed my eating habits since joining MFP and have found the willpower to resist some foods on a regular basis or to eat only a portion of the item but I know myself. If I try to deny it, I begin to crave it (very susceptible to suggestion to - reading these blogs make me hungry-LOL) and then I binge.

So better to focus on eating healthier whenever possible and acknowledge that treats still have their place in my diet - balance against exercise calories and still (hopefully) lose weight by the next weigh-in.

I agree, life is to be lived.

Pizza, ice cream, italian food. I haven't given up most of the things I love. I have changed how much or the type of foods I eat... I will choose frozen yogurt over ice cream, thin crust pizza over thick, etc. I am not feeling deprived at all.

The one thing Idid give up completely was soft drinks. I loved an ice cold coke. I haven't had one in over a year. Never did like diet pop. Now I prefer water with lemon, or coffee, over any other drink.

I am having a hard time giving up bagels. I love my whole wheat Chompie's bagels. Even having them I'm still low in my calories and carbs, so I am going to keep enjoying my bagel in the morning :)

I refuse to deprive myself of my favorite things. However, I will not let myself go back to how it used to be. So I allow myself to have a bite if I want, or even a little bit more but I need to earn it. If I do my exercise and I still want that item, then I go for it. If its my lazy day and I didn't do much? nope... will just wait another day.

I know myself to well. If I make sure I am not around it then I want it even more and it becomes an overwhelming urge and then it spirals out of control. So knowing its ok for me to have a little taste of something I am able to say no, I can have it later.

I will never give up cheese! Believe me, I've tried. Luckily, I've learned to like the light stuff. Everytime I go to my friends place, he's on the paleo diet and eats cheese with friggen EVERYTHING, and its the good stuff too. Oh em gee, I love brie. (rhyme unintentional, haha)
Also, buffalo sauce. It doesn't even have to be on chicken wings! It's about 3 days worth of sodium in one go, but there are worse things to be addicted to.

    I had pizza tonight.

It was homemade and I got to eat an entire half a pizza, for only 577 calories. And it was really, really delicious.

Personally, I'll never give up french fries.

I've seen it firsthand. People saying there's no such thing as a healthy diet that includes pizza...only not as nicely worded. I completely agree with you about not cutting out what you love. If you expect to maintain this lifestyle you've got to be realistic. I would never give up chocolate (I've just switched to dark over milk) and I've gone from meat lover's pizza to a thin crust with feta cheese, ham, chicken, green peppers and tomatoes. It tastes great, is high in protein and you can eat like the whole thing without wrecking your diet.

Not a bad attitude to adopt

The two things I actually have given up are peanut butter and Jelly sandwiches and white bread. I stiell will have some PB on some nice whole grain bread or PB and Graham crackers but I like PB and J sandwiches on some nice white italian bread wayyyy to much. So I have given it up all together. Everything else is in moderation, Ice Cream (well moderation sometimes), Cookies, Cake ect ect and when I do indulge it is not every evening maybe once a week ior even once a month except for ice cream If yo u have not noticed I got a thing for Ice Cream. Specially Hudsonville Deer Trax or Peanutbutter twist so I just dont buy it too often. Also for the most part I have given up all fast food maybe once every 3 or 4 months maybe.
