Just wanted to know what other thought about this article. A "friend" recommended that I read it and take some points to heart ... I'm not sure what she was referring to: a.) I'm not getting married anytime soon and b.) I'm not that good friends with her so I'm a little put off ... what do you think?

I cannot fathom why someone would send that to a friend, close or otherwise, unless that friend had recently been talking about a fear of being fat at their wedding. For someone not getting married, who IS working on being healthy, and HAS lost a lot of weight already, this article makes NO sense. I assume this was her way of trying to send you a "you're beautiful the way you are- accept yourself" message...which is a nice thought but very badly executed in this case! If I were in your position, I would probably try to ignore it or say something like "I'm not sure what you were hoping I would get out of this but personally I'm happy with the track I'm on towards losing weight and being healthy."
Oh, and what really blows my mind is that in the article she said her friend told her "You're fat now, just thought you should know." Seriously? If a "friend" told me that I'd be livid!!!! That's not expressing a concern- that's being flat-out rude. Besides, I think us overweight people usually know we're overweight and don't need people pointing it out!0 -
Take points to heart? UGH! I personally wouldn't be friends with her anymore lol!
I was fat for my wedding so I get what the author of the article is saying..but if a friend sent this to me I would be PISSED! I'm fat, my "friends" don't need to remind me, and if I were say..losing weight for my wedding, who is to say I'm not getting healthy/skinnier for myself and not necessarily my wedding. I think the article, and your "friend" made a lot of assumptions that shouldn't have been made considering someone's motivation for losing weight while they're engaged0 -
Working really super hard to think of a happy, positive, nice reason someone would send you that. I'm gonna get back to you when I think of something. Cuz all I got right now is a snotty reasons like even if you get skinny you won't be a better person than me...
If you can do it politely you should ask her which points stood out to her. I'd like to know which ones she thought you needed to hear.0 -
Wait. Did you read this link? My take-away was that it shouldn't matter what size you are when you get married and that you shouldn't place value or love on weight. Am I the only one who read it that way? Maybe she thinks you're being too hard on yourself and thought this would help.0

This is what I thought when I read it. I think the friend was trying to tell you, if you want to lose weight- fine. But, it won't change who you are as a person.0 -

Yeah, that's pretty much what I thought, too. I have no idea who this person is, but she really might have been saying something nice to you. I dunno. As for the link, I have close friends who could totally tell me "Hey, you know you're fat now, right?" because they know me and I know they not only what is "best for me", but they want for me what I want for me. I can take the truth as long as it's honest and said with good intent.0
