    Hi,
From my own experience I can tell you, that it is possible! I started running in January this year, I've never ever run in my entire life before and I did a 10k in April.
Just start slowly and listen to your body. Go running regularly and slowly increase the distance. You don't want to increase your speed at the beginning, endurance is more important for a beginner.
If you want, add me and I'll cheer when you log in a run :)

Amazingly, and I eat a lot of Bananas, they're really no better than cookies for keeping you satisfied.

    Apparently apples are MUCH better.

    OK, here you go.
5k is actually not that hard as long as you go at your own pace. And your own pace means not racing someone else or the clock.

Personally, I can barely run 2 laps of a High School track, and I'm not very good if I can see how far I still have to go. But put me on a wooded trail in the hills, where the furthest I can see is to the next corner, and I can run for ever. (And I ****ing HATE running)

The other thing, which is actually really important, learn to run efficiently.
Take small steps, not long strides.
It'll help you run on your toes, not your heels, (which is sucking all the energy out of your running right now), and it's much better for your knees.
If you feel like going faster, just pump your arms faster, but stick with the small steps.

Above all, try and relax, NO THUDDING!!!. NO GASPING!!!
Relax your hands, fingers, jaw and neck.
Just cruise along, maybe stop and walk a few paces now and then, get your breath back.

A trick an old friend once told me was to set a timer on my watch for 5 min.
Jog off down a trail till the timer goes, then treat yourself to 60 sec of walking back home. after 60, jog again. EASY.
If you do this twice a week, and add 1 min to the timer each time, within 5 weeks you'll have built up to roughly 30 min runs.
That's most likely more than 5k right there.

And by the way, I'm old enough to be your effing grandad, was a heavy smoker most of my life, took loads of drugs, all my knees and things ache, and I can run 5k easy. Get out there and RUN you little *kitten* grom, or I'll come round and shoot your car or something.

    Motivation enough?
    Good, have a fun life.

(ps Just kidding about coming round to shoot the car. I like cars, and ammunition is really expensive)

Motivation can only come from within!!! You have to decide for yourself how badly you want to make this change, and then be willing to do the work that comes with that!! Eat to your calorie goal, depriving yourself will only cause you to crave and binge! Exercise, eat back those calories...MFP has already created your deficit when you chose your activity level. Drink water and make healthy choices!!!

You are well below your calorie goal, it's all about the "NET" calories. Eat to your daily goal and those cravings will subside!

I don't believe in starving myself, so for me no. Won't fasting make you crave those sweets all over again? It would for me. Is fasting something you are going to continue with for the rest of your life? Whatever path you decide to take it has to be sustainable. The best way to do this is to make it a lifestyle change, eat healthier, do your own cooking, eat whole grains, drink water and eat to your calorie goal. I don't about you, but that's a plan I can live with.
