Hi!

Anyone else here trying to conceive, but still want to shed a few pounds and shape up your body? Do you think trying to do that will have some kind of effect on getting pregnant?

Replies

  • I would love to conceive! I am trying to lose weight to become healthier and some day have a baby. I believe the extra pounds I am holding on to are preventing it.

Me too! I've lost almost all the weight I wanted to. I started about 6 months ago though because I refused to get pregnant at the weight I was. I still have a few lbs to go but I wouldn't be upset if I got pregnant tomorrow. I think being healthier does have a positive effect on conceiving. I have read though that extreme working out does have a negative effect. I'm not sure what the definition of "extreme" is though so I am kind of confused. Anyone know?

As a father of 4 (3 boys and 1 girl) we have been there and done that. :-) The first 3, we had absolutely NO issues getting pregnant with. The 4th, it took us a long time (over two years). The difference? With the 4th my wife was on a "severe diet". It ended up causing havok with her cycles and also with general lady-type health. We ended up both going to see her OBGYN and he basically had it out with her and I. If she wanted to conceive, she had to start eating more, especially protein (.5 grams per lb) and he also started having her take folic acid (before she was pregnant). She started following his orders, and about 6 months or so later, we were able to conceive our daughter.

There is nothing wrong with watching what you are eating, exercising, etc when trying to conceive. My wife exercised the entire time and all the way up until she was a few weeks from delivery. The Doctor never made her or asked her to stop working out. But, if you aren't eating the RIGHT things and enough food, your body is going to be telling you "hell no".

I'm glad there's others of you out there. I've had some people tell me that I'm fine the way I am and if I'm activley trying to lose a few more pounds it will just put added stress on my body making it hard for me to conceive.
  • Losing weight helped me get pregnant the first time!

A year and a half ago I was on a weight loss binge and dropped 35 lbs. I still concieved. It just sucked after all my hard work that I would have to start over again in 9 months but it was definitely worth it (: It took me about a month to concieve. And I love my healthy baby girl <3

    Definitely.
We tried for years. My Doctor said that losing 5% of your body weight can result in better chances in conceiving.

We did end up using clomid, I have PCOS, but I worked out really hard and ate very healthy for 6 months prior.

My doctor told me i could keep on ttc while im losing weight. If u lose weight drastically that can effect ur cycles so just keep that in mind. But i think its fine for u to be trying while u lose weight. Good luck

Thanks everyone. It sounds like I should be just fine doing both as long as I don't go overboard. I think the 5% of body weight sounds good - that'd put me right around 116 and I think I'd be happy there. I guess I'm just antsy to get pregnant and want to do everything right, but also feel good about myself at the same time
