Hi there,

I know this isn't a support forum for this product, but I thought I'd try anyway since it's a fitness website.

I own this one: http://www.amazon.com/Polar-Womens-Heart-Monitor-Purple/dp/B001F0PVNA/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1341084861&sr=8-6&keywords=polar+heart+rate+monitor

In the beginning, of owning it, I never had this problem, but when I'm in the middle of a workout, it will say "check heart rate monitor". Does anybody know why this is happening?

Is it losing your heartbeat, I suspect it is telling you to check HR monitor due to suddenly losing track of your heartbeat.

This could be due to the cheststrap slipping down or the strap actually drying out and so not picking up the signal.

One possibility: do you wash the strap every five or sixth time you use the HRM and do you rinse it off after every single use? The salt from sweat can end up obstructing the HR signal, the salt solidifies in the sensors and causes it to not work correctly.

Wow, thank you! I never thought to wash it... oops? Is it as simple as throwing it in the washer and dryer?

not the dryer. Just put it in the washer about once a week. You are supposed to put it in some sort of sack or something. I just put mine in the gentle cycle and let it air dry. And rinse after every use. But even with doing that, mine still stops working several times during my workouts, which is very annoying.

I have had mine for over 2 years now. In addition to rinsing after each use, laundering and air dry once a week, the straps wear out over time. I have noticed they last about one year. You can get replacements for about $17- 20 dollars each.

I washed mine earlier in the week, and that same day it was air drying, I tried it and it stopped working in the middle. I'm going to try it again tonight, but I don't know. If it doesn't work tonight, is it a good idea to ask for a refund or something from the manufacturer?

Oooh okay. I bought another HRM a year ago and it stopped working so I bought this one, but this one cost me $136 figuring I wouldn't have to buy a new one again! Maybe I should have washed it more, but I still thought that an expensive one wouldn't do this...

If you've lost weight sometimes they aren't tight enough any more, if washing it doesn't work, try tightening it up. That worked for me.

Aha! Me too! I washed it and then tightened it because it kept falling down towards my belly. Now it's up towards my heart, which well, makes sense. :) Thank you!

Do not put it in the dryer, just on a warm (not hot) quick wash. Do not use softener in the wash that the strap is in either, for some reason that interferes with it too.

Once it has been spun, I usually just hang it up to dry right out and then it is as good as new. :flowerforyou:
