Hello!

I'd like to get your opinions, please :)

I've been running for almost a year, and I've been working really hard at it for the last several weeks because I'm off for summer vacation. Last week I ran 18 miles.

How do you think it would work to do 30 day shred after my runs? Would that be too much, or a good thing?

I think it would be good, the 30ds uses different muscles than used when running, more exercise couldn't hurt. Maybe don't do it everyday if you feel you are overdoing it

I used to do the 30 DS after my runs. I found after shorter runs(<10km), it was a good workout. But after long runs (10km +), I barely had the energy to do the strength portions properly. And if you're not able to do it properly, then you risk injuring yourself so it's really not worth it. I also found it much harder on my knees after I ran.

You can always try it though and see how it works for you!

well, I've been running since March and am still really rubbish at it! But I have made it up to 30mins a day and am pushing the distance up a little each week, so it's pretty hard work for me.... I run in the morning before work, and 30DS in the evening after supper.

The shred is hard on your legs when you first start, so it would be a good idea to schedule a few easier runs in - but an extra 20mins workout is not going to make your run impossible:) You can definitely do both.

I think it is possible - I am doing 30DS and I have been doing it before and after workouts depending on my mood. It uses different muscle groups.

I would cut the runs down by half, the shred is hard work, doesnt look like it,but boy it burns the legs. Im on level 2 now and its not easy at all.

I often do 30DS on the same day as either running or cardio at the gym but I tend to do it in the eve, and gym in the morning. I did try and do 30DS about 2 hours after a gym session and stopped half way through as was just too tired.

Depends how fit you already are. Give it a try, if you can't do it straight after, do it later or earlier. I read something the other day that says it takes women only 4 hours to recoup from a workout (some fitness mag) so maybe give a break like that if you struggle to do it straight away.

Thanks! Running is really more important to me. I managed my first 6 miler yesterday! I'm working towards being able to complete a half marathon. But I want to work on losing more inches, so I thought that the 30ds may help it along.

Its good, I was running a mile than doing the 30 day shred or ripped in 30 and found my body changed faster and looked better when doing both rather than one or the other. The cardio, as you probably know, burns the fat but the combo that jillian does burns more calories and tones at the same time giving you a leaner look. It sounds like you already run a great distance so switching it up and working other muscles with give your great results. Just make sure you don't overdo it. and like MrsAgi wrote, Jillian works your legs a lot so keep that in mind. Jillian workouts are tough, so you need to make sure your eating more when running and working out too!

    GOOD LUCK!

I agree that you should maybe cut down your running just a little bit while starting the shred and maybe for the first 1-3 days into the leveling up (finishing level 1, starting level 2, etc). You sound like you are in the right shape to take on both exercises though. I was doing the shred for awhile in the beginning of my weight loss, but I didn't stick to it (didn't like it) and found alternative exercises that fit my needs. However, when I tried doing it, I was 269 pounds and couldn't run 6 feet, let alone 6 miles! I think you'll do great, just give one (or both) a day off if your muscles are too fatigued to do your regular living tasks with ease.

It would be like playing base ball, then swimming. SO many different muscles are in activity between the two that it will be good for you overall. Maybe ease into it if anything because I can only assume you'll get tuckered out by adding a whole other work out to your agenda.

Great runs btw, I'm just getting into running. It takes a lot of heart to do it.

I started running to lose weight. I did the C25k back in December (started trying to run in October) and I've been going with it. It's helped me lose 33 pounds (some lost on WW before I came here) and I really enjoy it. It's a major challenge, but I actually get down in the dumps if I don't do it. I wish you luck with your running! If it's something that you really want, don't give up!
