I am sure there are plenty of posts going around but I am thinking about purchasing fitbit however I don't want to spend $100 if its not effective. I would appreciate if you could share your experiences with fitbit.

I'm thinking of purchasing FitBit too. I'd also be interested in any reviews of the product. I want to make sure its a useful tool before I spend that much.0

I've had one for a few months now. Love it! You really want to see the numbers go up during the day so it really does keep me motivated.0

It does seem like a pretty interesting device, I think the sleep mode is probably the most intriguing part about it.0

I've only had mine for about a week now and so far I like it. It helps in that it makes you more conscientious of your activity level and helps encourage you to do more. I purchased the FitBit Ultra and have used it to also monitor my sleep. The connectivity between MFP and FB is pretty good but more syncing/sharing between the two would be a welcome addition (supposedly on the way).
BTW, I picked mine up from Amazon for $86, not sure if the price is still the same.0 -
I have one too. I love how you can link it with MFP and it really encourages me to take the stairs too! Also, I love the sleep feature where you wear it in bed and it tells you how well you have slept.

I've had my fitbit for 5 months and still love it. I love seeing the number of steps increase and seeing my idle time decrease. My husband and I challenge each other to see who can get the most number of floors, average number of steps per week or most badges.
Just be realistic about what you get with the fitbit, it's a glorified pedometer, but for me, money well spent.0 -
I've had mine for several months; was wearing it every day until it broke (they sent a replacement, which I just received.... customer service was pretty helpful in that regard). Overall, I don't find it as motivating as many others seem to. Unless I have a long run, I find it hard to hit 10,000 steps per day, even on days like yesterday when I ran 3 miles (got just shy of 9,000 yesterday). I don't tend to look at it and then decide to walk until I hit the goal. As a distance runner, I tend to just run whatever run I have for the day according to my plan, and then live life as usual.
I do like the stair function and rarely have difficulty hitting the 10 flights / day goal; for that one, I will walk up the stairs once or twice to hit the goal. But that's not going to have a huge impact on my fitness overall. I don't eat back exercise calories, so the fact that it links to MFP is neat, but doesn't really buy me anything. The sleep tracking is interesting, but more as trivia.
Overall, it's fine to have my steps, stairs, and sleep tracked and is interesting, if not essential or impactful to my life. If you eat exercise calories back or think it'll motivate you to hit your targets for steps & stairs, it may be more useful for you!0 -
I have had mine for about 2 months now. I consider it a high-tech pedometer. It tracks steps, total distance covered, time spent being active (sedentary, mildly active, fairly active and very active), calories burnt, flights of stairs and sleep. I use mine everyday, but do wish it had a heart rate monitor. It is great for walking and running, but doesn't know if you are being active doing something where you are not necessarily stepping (biking, lifting, etc.). For these activities, I manually input my activites(from the database) into MFP with the start time and duration.
It is motivating to see the numbers increase and it does motivate me to move more thoughout the day. I like that it automatically syncs with MFP once you have it setup though.
I think it is worth the $100 I spent on it.0 -
I have had my Fitbit since April and find it a great motivator to keep moving. Iuse it in conjunction with MFP and it works well for me.
I am in a very sedentary office based job and find it very useful to encourage me to walk more to get more steps and grow my little flower's leaves :happy:0
