  • First off good for you for wanting to make and keep healthy habits and make it a life long thing.

    I was 150+ lbs overweight as a teenager and lost it all through good diet and exercise and it can be TERRIFYING to start and overwhelming the entire way through. But you have to remember that its all worth it. Sometimes it sucks, sometimes it's going to make you cry, you will want to give up, you will get stuck and you will keep going and you will be so much better off for it.

    My biggest suggestions (in no real order) are;

    -SWEAT! Get moving. Get out. Have fun with it. When I first started I walked for 15 minutes a day to start with. Then I bumped it to 30. Then an hour. Then I started hiking a lot. Then jogging. Put on your best happy music and dance around. Do whatever you can to move your body a burn calories. Do yoga, stretch and strength train. I highly suggest strength training.

    -Learn to cook healthy. I started by using a lot of Cooking Light recipes. I really like their stuff and there is a HUGE variety and it's all great stuff. You can find recipes online, at the library and I get a whole set of hardcover healthy cooking for a dollar at a church tag sale. Know what you put in your body, learn to make it healthier and cook good. Losing weight and getting healthy is not about a diet, it's about a life style change.

    -Learn to alter your own clothes! Once you start losing weight you'll be thankful you learned and can now make awesome funky clothes at a fraction of the cost plus its fun.

    -Set reasonable goals. Be realistic and understand this can take a long time but its worth it.
